Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Anyone ever change out the O2 sensor on a Yamaha Vmax? Needing a new one as I didn't realize they needed to be cleaned on a yearly basis. Cleaned it, but registers slow according to the computer. Not real famililar with them. It was suggested that I buy a new one, but does anyone know if there is anyway to salvage this one. Pretty expensive little part  . It looks like it should be pretty simple to change, just don't want to get in over my head. Thanks. It is on a 2002 225Vmax. |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Hey Marshall...replied to your PM's. Mine was an '01, so they should match up. Your's is an OX66 right? There's two Achilles Heels to the OX66- the three fuel pumps, and the O2 sensor; both are easy fixes. Beyond that the VST filter can give headaches, but 99% of issues are either the pumps or the O2 sensor. Other than that, AWESOME motors. |

Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Thanks for the reply and the insight on the motors. I have heard that the membrane on each side of the fuel pumps can lead to faulty O2 sensors if there is any laeking past them. Boats are just a hole in the water to put money right?

Location: Kodiak, AK | To the best of my knowledge, O2 sensors fail from carbon build up, or just plain-old age; the fuel pumps are a separate issue. The fuel pumps fail from the diapragms getting small pin holes in them. They need to be replaced every couple of years, and you change all three of them as a set. Takes about an hour. |
