S T A T E C O L L E G E, Pa. — It seems the anti-fur activists in State College are a hair short on foresight.
When the Mr. Charles clothing shop was vandalized last week with red paint and anti-fur messages, the assailants apparently didn't notice that the shop only sells fake fur.
"I feel sorry that somebody would do such a thing when it was a faux fur-trimmed denim jacket that cost $59.90," store owner Charlene Rosen told The Daily Collegian, the Penn State student newspaper.
The vandals attacked last Tuesday, throwing a rock through the store's front window and spraying red powder around the shop. The rock reportedly carried the phrases "fur = death," "fur is dead," "animal murderers" and "fur is murder."
An anonymous e-mail took responsibility for the incident in the name of the Animal Liberation Front, an extremist animal-rights group. The note said the store was targeted because it sold fur.
In fact, the shop sells only fake fur, the exasperated owner said.
"This is totally objectionable, and even if it were real fur, that doesn't matter. No one has a right to destroy anyone else's property. If that's what our society is coming to, then we have a real problem," she said.
The Daily Collegian reported the e-mail was traced to a computer in a campus library.
Well, "Houston, we have a real porblem", I guess. m | |
