| The Next Best Day of Fishing
I said I would post our follow up trip with our Guide to see if the first one was an exception or not. Our expectations were not for another 9 Fish in the boat outing like last time on Sept 5th when we went out with Musky Stalker (Dave Williamson). We know that even seeing a follow and landing one is a good day on the water.
We decided to try again on Monday Oct 19. The weather turned out alright. Started out 10 - 14 mph NNE winds and overcast in the morning, but died down to a reasonable level by noon. Water temp was around 48 degrees. The fish appeared not to be in their fall pattern yet as it seems to be the case across the state. Dave taught us a couple of new tactics.
5 other boats were also out on the lake at the same time.
We got a mid 40's up to the boat, but lost it. Had another follow, then my friend boated a very nice fat 51.5 x 24. Note to self quit bringing friends and son who get the 50"+ fish each time. We got a 48. Followed up with a 47 and lost another low 40's at the boat. Not a bad day (9 1/2 hours of fishing) considering none of the other boats got anything. I believe only one of the other boats even had a follow based on talk at the landing as we all got off the lake at roughly the same time. We all appeared to be using similar methods and tactics.
Once again Dave Williamson spoiled us by ruining our expectations for when we go out with him. Nine fish the 1st time and now three this time which easily should have been 5. For both trips except for two, the other 8 fish were 40” – 48” plus a 50” and 51.5”. He gets a little passionate out there Muskie fishing and I wouldn’t want it any other way in a guide. Make sure though that he wears his lucky shorts as you get twice as many fish when he does.

We did try on our own on Tuesday, but got caught in the rain, high winds and weather for a very wet cold miserable day and never saw a fish. Saw a few other pros gutting it out casting, but not landing anything either.
So the question is, go out with Musky Stalker again this month if I can find the time before ice up? However, the Wife keeps asking when are you putting in that new front door, before Winter?
