| On certain lakes near the landing when I'm done fishing, I get my deer shiner out and start shining toward the weed edges and other surrounding areas. I see a lot of muskies doing this when I shine. They do not seem very active and I have tried throwing my rod out there with different baits. Just wondering what are the rules with this? Is this legal? I believe it is within certain guidelines. Has anyone else ever tried this? I only have done this in Wisconsin.

Location: Yahara River Chain | It might help to know what state you are in.
But then again - maybe not. Nevermind.

| Make sure you have some type of tether on your rod when you throw it out there........jk.
Had my headlamp on the other night coming in and happened to notice a little guy chillin' on top of the weeds. We cruised over and my buddy was leaning over looking at him. The fish started to wiggle and look a little frisky, it's head came out of the water and it charged the boat!!! Ran right into the side of it!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Thought my buddy was going to go backwards out the other side of the boat!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
On the legal side I don't know why it would be illegal. They are fish....not deer. |

| I do it. Great fun to see them and watch for bonus walleye snaking along the bottom. Once had a mid-30" follow the pool of light, when he/she caught up with it it would stay in the light. I when moved the light beam, it swam back into the center of the light.
Also, I saw the largest fish I ever saw in the wild with a Q-Beam in the middle of the night. I used to thnk it was WAY over 50" but after checking out some pics and videos of mid-50s" fish lately, now I think it was just really big. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I have never done it open water, but when we get a couple of inches of good cleaer ice I have had a blast going out after dark and shining fish. It was pretty amazing how it seemed all fish followed the same travel path. The fish were not spooky at all, it was almost surrel to me standing right above a mid 40" musky shinging the spot light on it, was alomst like you were standing on it. |
