Location: South East Wisconsin | Going up north this coming weekend to due some trolling and sucker fishing. I'm having some trouble finding some sucker rods here in the Milwaukee area. So my question is I have a St. Criox Premier 6'9"H do you think i'll be okay with this rod? Will I have to worry about the graphite shattering? Thanks.......

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I had been using that same rod for the past couple of seasons and I never had a problem. I've since moved to longer rods for sucker fishing but you should be fine, it's not like it's going to be super cold out. |

| Hey hunter get yourself a 8 foot heavy action dipsey diver rod. They are fiberglas/graphite composite and have a ton of backbone. Thats what I use. Hell I fish with mine in Jan-Feb for Brown Trout on Lake Mich. The cold is not a factor.. |

Location: South East Wisconsin | Thanks guys. I know its not going to be that cold out this weekend but I was just curious. I did a search on here and there are alot of different thoughts on graphite in cold temps. Agian I am just trying to use what I have so I can save some money. Where can I get 8 foot heavy action dipsey diver rods in the Mil area? How much do they cost?

| Catfish rods are like $29, pretty sure one of those would do the trick...

Location: Contrarian Island | imo go with as stiff as a sucker rod as you can find...imo the long "whippy" 8' cat rods won't break hooks free as fast and easy as something like a really heavy action 7 footer...good luck...

| i like the new Black River 8' Livebait/Trolling rods.
http://blackriverrods.com/
plenty of backbone to give 'em the berries, but has enough bend in the tip to be forgiving at boatside when fighting a fish. they're affordable too, so no need to break the bank for sucker and trolling rods.

| Would the shimano TDR trolling rods also make a good sucker rod? |
|
|
|
Location: Contrarian Island | imo not really the best option....would the 8' heavy work...yes, but you would have to load up the rod quite a bit before setting as the backbone really doesn't start until half way down the blank...The Bass Pro CatMaxx rods are pretty good for a heavy action rod and you won't break em! |
