Location: Hayward, WI | I'm looking for some crimps/sleeves for 90 lb. 7 strand wire. Just wondering what you guys like to use. I like the idea of double barrel sleeves, but it seems like most double barrel sleeves are too big for 90 lb. 7 strand (ID of about .61mm or .24in). It looks like Mason might make some that are small enough, but I can't find the exact inside diameter of the mason crimps.
Have you guys found that the round, single barrel sleeves are relaible enough for musky fishing? I have a swagger I use with double barrel sleeves for making my fluoro leaders, and would like to not have to buy a different tool to make 7 strand leaders.
Thanks!

Location: Northwest Wisconsin | This year I started making my own 135 pound sevenstrand leaders. I use the round single barrel crimps and have not had a single problem all year. I believe that 90 pound uncoated sevenstrand uses a number 3 crimp. |

Location: Contrarian Island | you can get .7 mm double barrel crimps from leadertec.com, leadertec also sells them on ebay...
though they are fairly narrow and require a narrow crimping tool... |

Location: Bowling Green, KY | If your using coated wire just twist the wire together and fuse about 3/4 inch worth with a lighter or candle. It will hold as well as any crimp I'd imagine. Every time I've ever tested a leader made this way it always broke in the middle of the wire, not at the fused point. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I use electricians pliers to crimp the wire sleeves which are seven strand brand and are slightly oval, and it has never failed me. I've made my own seven strand wire leaders for a very...very long time...long enough to go through an entire 1000 yard spool of 60# for my creature and spinnerbait fishing. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Alway use a cup to cup pliers, here is the way the salt water guys do it, so if it works for 1000lb saltwater fish, I think it will work for a 50lb musky. Go to http://www.leadertec.com for a step by step how to make F/C leaders the right way. Pic #1 is the right way and pic #2 is the wrong way.
