I have seen him on youtube making his own leaders. I thought that you don't just crimp the middle on a double barrel. Please take a look to see if I'm doing it wrong. Thanks

I have been making my own flurocarbon leaders for many years and have yet to have a failure.  Here is the best primer I have ever found on how to make your own leaders.  It details the equipment needed and the techniques used.  Check it out....it should answer all your questions.

Hiya,

That is the best one I found when I was making my own flouro leaders as well. Having not read the article fully in a long while, I didn't see mentioned that when you use the lighter to move the crimp all the way down to the mushroomed end. That keeps it all nice and clean when you go to crimp.

When you crimp, my understanding is you do not crimp the ends, but you do get really close to them. The reason (I recall) is that when you do crimp the ends down, it may have a tendency to cut the flouro easier, and could potentially create a break off...

I build mine like Marc's. Couple points... Make sure you have the correct size sleeve for the leader material diameter. Use an aluminum double barrel sleeve. Use a cup to cup crimping tool. Leadertech is a great resource for methods, materials, and techiniques.
