I spent a week with my friend (we'll see after this) Chris Drury (Witchdoctor) and our wives pounding MN muskies last week. I of course sucked it up good blowing several very nice fish. Chris did well including a 6 fish day. I took several of his photos...or I thought I did. As it turns out I forgot to check and see if there was film in the camera [:0]

You guys are being too easy on Luke Chinewalker. He needs to pay for his sins. Here is what's missing:

His wife's 39" (her first Musky)
My 37", 43" and 44".

Thankfully my wife was in the boat for the other three fish that day and I got photos. She handled the net well for a rookie and was perfect on the 45" that capped the day. Looks like I found my new partner!

Please give Joe a hard time, all in fun of course! How can you go the whole week without film? Did I mention that his wife out-fished him? Sorry buddy but revenge is a dish best served cold!

Luke Chinewalker....thats too good! Lunchie...this all goes back to a conversation we had at Burger King: digital camera would be the way to go. At least you didn't lose any pics of you with fish, you would have to catch fish first, we we know is something you are very adept at losing. Where should I be talking though? I'm fishless in the last 5 days on the water. OK, we both suck.

You know its bad when you forget the camera, but letting the wife out fish you???? Not good. Makes me wonder if he had film but realized the wife was out-fishing him so he "ACCIDENTALLY" forgot it! Sure, I bet there is a good role of film sitting on the bottom of the lake!
LOL
At least you had a good time!

I'll give you a run for your money on the BAD LUCK contest. How is this for a trip?

Four days of fishing on LOTW. First hour of the trip my partner boats a beautiful (fat) 45 incher. I video taped the entire fight from hookset to release.... only to realize I taped it with the lens cap on. Great audio... poor video[:halo:]

Rains hard all night.... wake to find my partners camera (which I put away) laying in 6 inches of water in the bottom of my boat. Proceed to lose a few fish that got a taste of iron during the day. Then hit rock reef at 40 MPH with my new rig and bust the entire skeg off the lower unit[:blackeye:]

Day three goes uneventful... other than a few shorties in the boat.... lots of BIG fish seen (including the biggest fish I've ever seen on LOTW).

Day 4 (last day) proceed to run out of gas in the middle of Sabaskong (Long Story... and I put the blame on my partner) and waste 2 hours getting towed to the landing. Raised almost 20 different fish over 40 inches without a single fish getting hooked (what a kick in the pants) and then finish off the day by dropping my Cell Phone in the LAKE!!!!

Grand total in damages:
$300 for skeg
$250 for camera
$100 for cell phone
$1000 for psychiatrist
One ticked partner for not getting video of the only decent fish of the trip and destroying the only photographs of it too.

All in all... not a bad trip. Can't wait to go again next year!!!

Oh yeah, and I found out today that my new Yamy F115 is only running on 3 cylinders. No boat for 2 weeks while I wait for parts and have the skeg work done.

You know what? I think I'm getting a little depressed. Maybe the musky gods will show a little remorse real soon?

Ok so at least one of you can hold a candle (Jlong). Although I cannot out do your misery perhaps you will take some comfort in the following additional events for the trip.

Chris and I decide we're going to leave togther and I'm sure I have all my things to do completed prior to the trip. Turns out my bearing buddy was not a one time thing last time it farted all the grease out. I didn't get any farther then Rockford (50 miles from home) and that sucker was dry. Chris takes off and we decide to hook up later after I get a mechanic to look at the bearing. 2 hours delayed and $55.00 lighter I'm off to catch up with Chris. We hook up in Eau Claire where Chris has been throughly bored waiting on me. I realize that I picked up the wrong leaders a few days prior and need a few extras as back up. The only place in town with leaders is Gander Mountain who only had the Bucher brand which ran me....$4.50ea!

Back on the road we get to our overnight location in Duluth and have an incredibly average, outrageously overpriced meal and check into the Econo Lodge. We had to stay there because they were the only place with vacancy after procrastinating reservations. They should rename that place the Flea Lodge.

After a sleepless night in a place worse then my college dorm room we were off to hitch up and complete or journey. The parking lot didn't have a level surface anywhere which turned into a 40 minute ordeal getting Chris' boat (the QE2) back on the hitch. Not 40 min out of town Chris had a flat, the fourth one on the same wheel in less then two seasons. We see Worrall drive by and give him the wave who now says he never saw us. [:p] After arriving at the lake we do a shake down cruise and find out both boats have issues. Chris gets his repaired promptly but I was another train wreck.

I needed to do a prop change to deal with the first time I had to run with 46gal of fuel. I pulled out my other prop and began a prop change. While leaning over the edge of the dock I get the prop off and find that my brass washer was stuck on the shaft. I give it the jimmy bar and it pops off right into the drink. I jump into about 2.5 feet of muck and begin to fish for it with my feet and find at least 5 rocks before the washer. I hop out of the water and put the other washer and prop on and begin to tighten the nut. I drop the prop wrench in the water (BTW the plastic ones DON'T float) and have to jump back in and fish it out of the muck, wasn't smart enough to just stay in the water after the washer ordeal. Back on the water I realize that my motor crapping out issue has not been resovled inspite of nearly 5 weeks in the shop. My primer bulb is still going soft after short idle periods. For the balance of the trip each and every time we started her up I had to check the bulb prior to taking off.

Fishing one night on two ocassions we tried a reef I had just explored earlier that day. Of course I came right up on them thinking they were farther away spoiling the spot during the prime time evening bite.

A few other highlights...

* Outfished by my wife who was a virgin prior to this trip and I think had a backup plan by blowing the netjob on a two of my fish
* Took pics of Chris' and my wifes fish with a camera which had no film in it
* Blew a fish that Chris tee'd up and gave to me, not once but twice....(pitty fish following the day he got 6 and I got the muskie finger)
* Threw a bait that had just caught 10 pike in 1.5hrs into a rock reef and cut it off by driving around the reef trying to get it free
* Tried to do a bass lift into the boat with at least 4 pike which were destined for the fryer but they shook off (yes there was a net in the boat)
* Left my rain gear in the boat during that 5" rain storm in MN last week while we were in the cabin.
