| check the toggle switch on the left side of the reel. There is a clicker i believe and sometimes it floats to the middle. I had a abu that used to do this. just make sure its off. it may be as simple as this. i know its supposed to click when casting but as i said, i had a reel that used to click when reeling in and this was the issue. |

Location: Duluth, MN | Do you oil the worm gear that moves the levelwind back and forth every couple times you go out? That gets dry pretty fast if you don't. If thats ok then the reel is pretty easy to take apart. Just have your parts diagram as a guide and start taking it down. Take the handle side of the reel off and you can clean all the drag washers...keep them in order. Put some grease on the brass gear and the smaller plastic ones. Look for dirt that might be rubbing around the spool and the frame. You can twist off your line tension adjuster and there are some washers and such in there. I've had dirt get in those and cause noise. The roller clutch bearing is the most common part that needs to be replaced in those reels. I have 3 of them and carry a spare in my tackle box. If your ripping a dawg or glide bait and your line just all of a sudden pulls off the reel for no reason...immediatly replace that bearing before you go to set the hook on a fish and your line peels off. St. Croix sells those for $10.
Hope that helps. |

Location: N.FIB | would it be a bad idea to use the reel on a sucker rod,I know if I send the reel anywhere I won`t get it back before the lakes freeze up.I know it wouldn`t get used as much on a sucker rod since I will have 1-2 rods with suckers out,but would hate for the reel to jamup while fighting a fish. |

Location: Smith Creek | Its not gonna jam up. Use it for trolling and sucker and you'll be fine. BTW, does the clicking affect performance or just really annoying? Just click when there's a load? |

Location: N.FIB | all you have to do is reel and it was clicking, with a lure or not,not very loud yet but noticeable.I might not even need it for a sucker rod, will probably just send the thing in and get it fixed. |
