Location: oswego, il | I have two crankbaits that I really like, one I have glued the lip back in once with jb weld, the other is about to get it's third lip. All that held them in was the epoxy finish and the jb weld only holds them in for awhile. The lip is standard thickness and there is a lead weight near the front and through wire so I don't want to run a screw into something. Would gorilla glue work or is there something better?

| I was just getting ready to post up a question just like this, in regards to re-gluing/fixing existing lips on baits that have worked their way loose over time.

| My problem is mostly with wooden crank baits and the lips coming loose on those. Plastic crank baits having lips coming loose, I've had success with getting those glue back on and staying put. Can't remember what the name of the glue that it is that I have in my boat that I use for the plastic baits, but this stuff works like gold.

| I don't really think the brand or type of epoxy matters as much as having the entire area of the slot sealed eith the epoxy either before adding the lip or totally coating it prior to putting the bill in. I prefer to use fast setting 1 minute or 5 minute versions, it sets up faster and I find the longer it takes the better the chance for it to get out of alignment. Followed up by the final 2 or 3 finish coats of epoxy locks the bill in place. I don't have much trouble at all with them coming out and am not shy about too much v.s. not enough epoxy. First priority is still sealing. Water will get in all it takes is a small air holeand once that happens your done, but if all is sealed with epoxy water doesn't hurt anything. |

Location: Westerville, Ohio | Are you gluing a plastic body bait or wood? I just bought some glue on Ebay. It is for gluing hard plastic. It's called Devcon Plastic Welder. It has a strength of 3500 psi and is waterproof. I have not tried it yet but, many of the baits I make have PVC bodies. This stuff says it will adhere to PVC and lexan. I paid about $5.95 with free shipping. Like I said. It came from Ebay and the seller was thepaperpoke. Just search plastic welder on Ebay. |

Location: South-Central VA | I've never had a problem with Devcon. I've glued lips in and tried to remove them. I can smash them with a hammer until they break off, but they won't come loose. Do you drill small holes in the lips so that the epoxy has something to "grab" onto? Also, make sure the epoxy is bonding to the wood in the lip slot. The slot needs to be clean of paint, sawdust, etc.
