Sept 5th, 2009 was best day of Muskie fishing I may ever have, both from quantity 9 fish, expereince, weather, etc. We went out with Dave Williamson, Musky Stalker who fishes the Alexandria to Detroit Lakes area as a birthday present for my eldest 31 year old son. I have had some bad guide experiences, but this made up for all of those. It wasn't all because we caught fish, it was the total experience including good equipment, better than mine, well setup boat, sense of humer, etc. Heck he even dropped of off in the morning so my wife wouldn't have to get up and get us.

We started in at 3 in the afternoon and fished into the full moon with a Southernly 10 mph wind. We had 3 Muskies in the boat in the first 2 1/2 hours (38, 39 and 41.5) and 3 pike and most with other boats around us. Dave was entertaining, educational and corrected a number of my son's and my faults. i.e. "Junior, you had a follow and didn't figure 8" as Dave drops his rod in and hooks and lands the 37. Junior didn't forget to do that again.  Dave would not let us leave the lake until we got at least one 50 which was 50 x 22" and he still tried to get me one as well.

Fishing was consistent through out the day and night, a real treat. We got 8 pike, 9 Muskies (38, 39, 41.5, 42, 46, 44, 42, 43 and a 50) and a bonus 3 lb Bass. We used Glittertails and Glitterspins which I am now sold on. Five of our fish came on the same color lure. I am booking again with Dave for October. So the question is can I have as a good a day/nite and will we get the bigger fish???? or am I jaded for life??? LOL

Sound slike you had an amazing day. I've been guiding here in Ontario for almost 25yrs. I wont say I wish anyone to have a slow day but I sometimes I really hated it when first time customers had days like you had. Those days can hard to come by at times and it made return trips pretty hard at times from a guides stand point. Remember on your return trip you had a hell of a first trip if things dont come together aswell. Full moon, stable weather, etc make days like that happen when matched up with a good guide.

Good Fishin'

That full moon weekend had an incredible bite going on in the state. Congrats on a great experience. Sounds like everything fell in place for you with good timing, good waters, and a good guide!

We had 8 fish under that moon during the same weekend in northeast Ontario. Large slow-rolled bucktails near the surface did the trick under the moonlight. Soooo fun!

Thanks everyone. I know better than to expect a fishing trip like that again; but I can dream can't I. With Dave Williamson my odds are better than going out on our own.

I was happy the time out before that with a friend when we got 3 in 45 minutes and had 2 follows in 11 hours of fishing.

We all love a nice clear full moon sky don't we!

I am planning an October trip out with Dave (MuskyStalker) again, so I will let you know if lightning strikes again? Actually hopefully I will get my 50"+, if not I will still enjoy a day/nite on the water with a couple of fun people regardless if I catch nothing.

Thanks Dan for the thread. I heard about it when I was on the water with other clients. I am looking forward to our trip in October and we will do our best to catch you your first 50.
