| Taking something you enjoy as a hobby and turning it into a business is not all it's cracked up to be.
I did it, and I'm pretty glad to now be done with it. |

| You don't have to be a bizniz to get your name out there.
You posted pictures of some great looking lures. Guys like them and would like to get a few. Your name IS out there.
Now, if you want to start making 100's or more, there are places all over the country that are there to teach you how to become a business. Call the DVR in your area, and they can point you in the right direction.
Good Luck,

Are "you" done with it or is MOJO done?
Thanks,

| I'll add in there a mild case of insanity........after all it is probably one of the worst business ventures to dabble in, after all the backstabbers and copy cats will come at you pretty quick................................ha ha I almost forgot...........death threats.........yep that can happen too : ) But hey if its what you have a passion for doing, then more power to ya! |

Location: Land of the Musky | For me it was $300 in wood working equipment and one piece of maple with some screw eyes, split rings, hooks and a few lips. It has gone a little out of control since then. I have also not made one dime yet in 4 years and will not for about 4 more and that is my break even point. Happy to help you out with the small things if you PM me (EIN number, State taxes, FET number, forming and LLC, accounting, website building, etc). Most of what it takes has nothing to do with lures. I dealt with UPS for about 3 hours in the last 4 days alone, 2 hours with a bulldozer guy in my yard, 2 hours last week with my accountant, 3 hours of mixed time with my bankers, yada yada yada and about 10 hours shipping among about 100 other things. 10% lures, 90% bizzzz crap. If you have a family and a full time job its not as fun as you might think.....
On a side note, congrats to Suick for buying a great company and lure brand!!! They will do the Weagle justice!

Location: Kodiak, AK | I'm on the upstart right now, selling in two local shops and direct to the customer. I'm really just doing the start-up now so that when I retire (military) in 8 years, I'm already established as far as customer base, hard knocks, etc. I'll agree. Actually tying flys/bucktails/building rods is but part of doing it. So far I don't regret it, but it has already come down to where I've not tied a fly or bucktail for myself in the last three months. I'm just trying to keep up with customers and it's actually "work!" Sheesh! |

| LOL SPOT ON
But first you have to register for an EIN then you get a Form 37 from the IRS, then you get to lose all the money you got

LMAO-TOOO TRUE!! Last year the IRS made more off of me than my profit was for my company. That was just them, then I had PayPal fees that were 2x more than I made in profit. Everybody with nickle and dime you. Again, only about 10% is about lures, the rest is boring bizzzz stuff. |

It seems all business is that way......my day job is the same thing, process, process. When I was young my parents ran their own business and I can remember late at night watching my dad deal with business stuff for the next day and hearing him say "the government makes liars out of everyone". What he meant was that you have to lie to stay in business............sad. It is not going to get any better.

Location: Land of the Musky | I don't lie "yet" but watching our government give crackheads and hookers MY MONEY makes it harder and harder to ride the line. Then the US Gov has the balls to ask me to pay even more next year and probably more the year after that! If they manage to take my hunting guns and booze away I think that would be the last straw. Time to run moon shine hidden in hallow lures then |

| You really need something unique right now to make it big. Something that really changes the way people fish. There are a million guys out there that can make a really great looking spinnerbait, bucktail, crankbait, jerkbait, top water etc. The market is beyond flooded.
It takes a lot of time too. Shops want stuff right away so plan on some all-nighters.
I think it's a lot like they say about being a fishing guide. "If I ever win the lottery I'm going to quit my job and start a musky lure business till it's all gone".
I think I'm ten or eleven years into it now and it was kinda fun the first couple years. Doing the shows and stuff was exciting. Now I'm burning out.
I have gone on trips where I didn't even have time to make myself my own lures to take along. Everything I was making is going out the door and no time to tinker. I was creative back then always working on new prototypes. Now it's just grind out another order. About the time you finish that another one comes in. Sometimes I feel like the guy that brings in the carts from the grocery store parking lot. What does he do when he gets all the carts brought in.... starts gathering up carts to bring in again.
Good luck. Be careful for what you wish for.....
