The first day of the PMTT Musky Hunter Magazine’s Fall Showdown on the St. Croix River today was INCREDIBLE!!! With 78 teams signed up to compete in the 2 day event, the anglers opened up the musky world to a new musky hotspot, the St. Croix River. 17 teams boated 24 muskies, of which 21 were over 40”. The team of Tony Grant and Dave Schutz started the day off by boating a 41” in the first few minutes after takeoff and didn’t stop encountering fish until they put 4 in the boat and losing several others, capped off by the big fish of the day at 50” with only a half hour to go and an amazing 321 points after only one day!

The complete results for the event will be posted tomorrow after the completion of day 2 of the tournament. For a complete list of the anglers that caught fish today, click on the link http://www.promusky.com/results/2009/09SCR.htm

I wonder what Justin Teske and Adam Glickman were thinking when they popped 2 over 46 and found out they were in 3rd place! That river already gets tons of pressure, it's big enough that it can handle it. Plus, anyone who has ever fished it knows that when conditions aren't right, you're in for a beating.

Being a river, I wonder what the main baits were. Jigging Bondy Baits, etc maybe?

This tournament has not done anything to let the cat out of the bag. Anyone serious about muskie fishing has known about the St. Croix for quite some time now...just making sure that people don't think that this tournament has exposed anything.

The top ten speaks for itself. When you need a 49.50” just to make the Top Ten, there is only one word to describe it. INCREDIBLE!!! What an awesome tournament.

Tony Grant and Dave Schultz take down the victory on Top Raiders in 4 feet of water or less. 33 fish in total with 30 of them over 40”.

We will have all the complete details out tomorrow in a press release but for a list of anglers that caught fish and the size of fish that were caught go to http://www.promusky.com/results/2009/09SCR.htm

Wow, what a bunch of big fish. I think everyone from IN IL WI and MN ought to seriously think about pounding the area next summer, heck, even this fall. There is time yet.

But definitely go there next summer. Incredible.

ClintV, I saw the tourney pics. Were there a lot of guys pounding that area where you got that fish? That shoreline is a sleeper.

Not really at that exact spot. The weed flat just south of it was getting pounded really hard but most of the small scattered weed patches around the docks weren't getting nearly as much preasure so we stuck to those. I don't think fishing pressure mattered to much on most sections of the river cause guys were trolling along side 60 other boats and popping 49's and 50's.....LOL!
