Have you dropped a lower unit on your boat before? I just did, first day on the water fishin' with it no less!!! I guess I'm just curious how many other people have lost one.

Used to stay at a camp ground where there was about 20 of one particular boat that everyone raved about. Well I was suckered and found a used one at dealer near by and bought it. First time out on the water I ABSOLUTELY HATED it. Said **** I'm taking it back . Just got back on plane and ran right into rock bar that's right up to the surface. A rock bar that I had just finished fishing and on a lake that I have fished for 20 years!! The dealer took it back but I lost a ton of money and the wife will never let me forget it.

it's less likely to happen if you don't gun it on unfamiliar waters.
just saying.

Was testing props on the Il river . Trying out my buddies mint 23 tempest . Ran on the river in this spot a few times during the summer. This happend in late oct. I was explaining to my "novice" passenger about the red and green cans and how to navigate by them (red right return) Lined up between the bouys and throttled up to test holeshot. Depth finder read 9' so I figured all was well. Just when the boat got on plane I felt a slight bump and felt the rear of the boat rise. Depth finder read 1' then dropped back to 9'. Shut er down trimmed up only to see my buddies prop bent twisted and dinged to death.
Test over ,pulled out and after further examination seems I smashed in the nosecone also.
Went into the bar that takes the launch fees and explained what happened and was told they were dredging the channel ,they removed 2 green cans that I could now see from the window ,were on shore . She told me they have been pulling a lot of stolen cars out and I prob hit one they missed.

Stopped for dinner on the way back from a trip to Geogrian Bay. The parking lot at the resturant was kind of full so we parked around the side which was out of our sight and against my batter judgement but we were starveing. After dinner we came jumped in and drove off. I stopped at the gas stain just up the road and after fueling I did a quick walk around to check everything before hitting the highway for the rest of the trip and........there it was.....gone. Some one had actually stolen the lower unit off our 10yr old 40hp Mariner while we were having dinner. My buddy had replacement cost for his insurance and they covered it without much of an problem.
