Spent some time in the garage adding more of a Baby Muskie tint to some Big Leaf Maple gliders (some blue that looks like a Mackeral) and some light gold scaling to some African Moabi. The Moabi needed very little weight besides the hooks, and it's dark blotches and patterns will show through after I put Etex on these.
I had guys offer to buy crankbaits that didn't work, just so they could hang them on the wall.
Stay tuned in a few days to see how they look when cleared. They'll be here and on the BST board.
I had good luck with the gliders that I made out of the pieces of Giant California Redwood. They took a lot to weight them, but in the water they danced. The owner of the business that I bought the redwood from emailed me a picture of a highly figured piece that he came across and thought that I might like. It looks much like tiger stripes or a tiger shark. When I get it, I'll send some pics. Though I'd rather work with Maple for the ease, that California Redwood is my favorite wood. The lures weigh a pound to cast, but in the water they weigh nothing.

First picture is too small to see.

Beautiful work. To me, this is the type of thing that lure building is all about...taking a idea and taking it out as far as you can to see what will happen along the way.

Sometimes you discover something new and very useful for fishing, but no matter what, you always have fun.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Beav. They're great.

I once played around trying to carve lures from a chunk of solid plastic. I even sent a piece to Jed (Bikini Baits) so he could try working with the stuff too. That was back in the day.

If you want any, just PM me. I'm going to add some more to the Baby Muskies, but I E-Texed one Maobi glider last night and it looks awesome.
I have a box full of fat Maple gliders to do yet, so I'll be busy this week to get them ready for guys who want something new for turnover. I bet a baby muskie just might get eaten by one of it's relatives when the water cools.

The 1" thick ones that are in the pictures aren't too bad, but I made the Redwood ones and a batch of really highly figured Maple ones about 1.5" thick so they more resemble a real fish and they weigh it. Funny thing is once they hit the water they don't weigh much at all. I just finished sanding some a little while ago, so after I seal them I'll put a picture and you can check them out.
I have to add some green highlights to the muskie/pike ones before I add some more E-Tex. I should have some for sale in a couple of weeks. Just in time for hot glider fishing........and of course, I have to keep a few.

Here's a look at some of the Suckers and one Muskie/Pike that I made. This is just after sanding sealer. Now you can see why I don't want to do much else to them. I'm saving some for myself, and all I'm doing is adding eyes.
