Turns out that Steelhead rod I ordered, has screwed up guides so thats going back, so I got some money to spend on a good musky setup for cow girls ect. IM gonna be fishing the chippewa flowage in october with my buddy grandfather ( a guide ) Any suggestions for a good rod for up there? And a reel to pair it with ( I have a okuma induron 400 But I dont know if you can burn dbl10's with it. )

Thanks

Premier, Tourneys, Okuma, MI, Hulberts, the list goes on...... I always like to get my hands on them before purchasing to see how they feel, I even bring my reels in with me to set them up to get more of a real feel but sometimes that just doesnt work out (online) Also whats the budget?. Good luck! No burning please. lol

I got it off ebay, just got off the phone with him, Ill have a full refund today. My budget , trying to stay as close to 100 for each ( unless I get the revo toro reel ) IM looking for a rod that can do it all, I have a browning medallion gt musky rod (20-40 LB 2-10 OZ 7'6'' MH with a mod fast tip ) Pair with a okuma induron 400 reel, I want another rod so that between the 2 I can throw most things decently.

thanks chris

For around that price look at Hulberts (musky Armor) or Okuma, Mania, or Compre. Thats all I can think of now, give or take $$ but close to price range your looking for.

I don`t fish the chip, but I think oct is time for suckers and suicks on the chip.I used to work with a guy who fished it alot,he would just row suckers around in spots and not even cast.If you search hard enough you can get a musky innovations rod for around a hundred or a little more,I bought the 8ft 2-10oz rod for mags and double 10`s and it seems like a great rod for the price I paid for it.

I recently picked up an Okuma 8'6" EVX rod in XXH for $112 at Smokey's in Pewaukee. It will cast pounders and also double 10's all day long! Put a Saltist 20 levelwind on it yesterday. Took a little bit to get the hang of flipping a lever to engage the reel but got the hang of it.

what's the "etc" part? i've caught many on the db 8"s this year but not where you are going. the combination i pick up 95% of the time is the croix legend big dawg xh with a luna 300. the croix dawg will handle big plastics too if that is what you meant by the "etc" part...

I saw them when I was up at the Vermillion outing, and they seemed like a very nice rod. Go with your gut and get the Toro, you wont regret it for a second.

Chris, I think is seen before you were asking about lefty reels? Can't remember for sure but it sucks we are kind of limited to reels out there. No lefty Saltist, Trinidad, ect...I have the Toro 61 but personally i like a bigger reel to hang on too when casting 10's and bigger baits. I use the Calcutta Te's 401's, with power handles on them. 5 + years on these two reels and they are still smooth as silk. I have one on a Croix Slingblade and one on a Croix XH Avid, both are sweet. I still need to add the Bigdawg to the collection for the bigger baits. Give me a shout if you want to jump on this week for a dusk bite and try them out. You got my #. Also, Check out the Avet site. The SX models are really sweet and not over priced. Designed for Saltwater casting. They come in single or 2 speeds and come in left handed. But again, no levelwind. Man i wish they would make the the Trinidad 16 N in lefty!

Stay away from the Hulberts. Hearing lots of breakage problems.
