| Do you guys think that Tiger muskies are different than Pure muskies, any articles or anything that could help me out? Do they like different water temps, do they move shallow or deep at different times, do they like different baits, ect? Or do you catch them the exact same way? I thought I saw this in an article before but don't recall wear. thanks!

Location: New Hope MN | I read an article in MH called Tiger Time. Honestly can't remember when, but it was written by Tony Grant. It said something like they move very shallow, like inside weed edge shallow, during the first HOT week of the summer. That's all i got for you. They're accident fish for me. I would like to know what others think as well. |

Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | Generally they are more agressive and acrobatic. I agree, fish them as you would pure strain....or fish them as you would Northern Pike. Either seems to work. |

Location: Contrarian Island | of the tigers we have caught the last 10 yrs or so..quite a few have come on suckers in the fall..the other ones have been on bright colored bucktails or spinnerbaits...almost like a pike would prefer...bright, gawdy baits...

| I'm glad you brought this subject up. They are very different fish and the "Natural" tactics don't work as well on Tigers. I am just beginning to get an understanding of that. In August my son caught a 42" tiger in the pads laying in about a foot of water just about on the bank. Here in eastern PA it's practically the only muskies we have, stocked tigers. I've even had people tell me they will not bite topwater or bite at night. We've already caught one on a Cisco Topper and one on a Spro frog so I know that isn't true. I'm not sure about the night thing though? Anyone else have any experience in that area? Anyone catch any on Top Raiders or walk-the-dog baits? I would be very interested in hearing about that. |

That's an interesting point about night fishing. I can't ever remember seeing a picture of one caught after dark. Guys? |

| stocked tigers WILL bite topwater,,,caught em on vipers -WTD on Nokomis and caught them on Top Raiders on cedar in Metro,,also know someone who swears by a boogerman buzzer,,,never heard of anyone consistently catching tigers at night here in metro but our lakes are VERY dark except for a few exceptions |

Location: Medford, WI | I've had similar results as Brad. 2 of my 3 tigers have come on suckers in the fall. My fishing partner also got 2 in the fall on suckers last year. Spinnerbaits are a good choice too.

| All 3 I've caught over 40" have eaten big joes. I caught 2 tigers on joes one day last year, 1 smaller, 1 was 43.75 . About a week later I caught a 43.5 also on a joe. 07 I got a 40.5.
I dont know why they like them so much, but they do! Color didnt seem to matter, as I got the 40.5 on blk/yllw, the 43.75 on white, and the 43.5 on blk w/blue sparkles. I caught 37-39" tigers on 10s, but nothing bigger than that
The pures like the joes too........I got an obese 44 tuesday on one!

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | Guys at a local tiger lake told me they've had success on them with giant spooks. Only heresay, but this was the last time i was there and the water was over the 80 deg mark. I thought that always did better in deep cooler clear water. Dont really know. I have a buddy who fishes a local outflow and has caught them fishing live bluegills on quick strike rigs. |

Well, I get a tiger now and again, but I am dismally poor at attracting the pure strain fish it seems. So to do a compare/contrast is somewhat an effort in futility. I don't think I fish them a whole lot differently with the exception of generally using smaller lures. When you try to pin down 'exactly the same way' you are leaving the window open a bit more than a crack there as I have witnessed people try to get pure muskies to bite almost every way imaginable it seems. Conventional thinking indicates that perhaps if you pretend they are pike, you will be successful. I pretend that they are muskies and I get my fair share. My color preferences are more toward naturals (perch and carp tend to be my best producers) w/ hard bodied baits and browns, blacks, white skirt and silver/gold for blades; pink can be good too. I have a good friend that only uses chartreuse and does quite well; it has never worked that great for me. I think the color preferences has more to do w/ the individual water and angler confidence than anything about the hybrid issue though. I have never gotten one at night, but have caught a few when it is dark in the early morning.

| Thanks for the replies and tiger specific tips. I'm really trying to get a handle on the differences. Other than river fishing, most of the small state park lakes in my area are stocked with only tigers. Anything that can be eliminated for tiger tactics is a big help. From what I'm reading it doesn't look like a wise proposition to spend much time after dark. A good number of guys reading the posts and only a few fish. I am also interested what you are finding with water temps? Are you doing well just after ice out on Tigers same as purebreds or do they turn on more after the water warms up? Same question on tigers in the fall do they keep biting into cold weather? Any comments appreciated. |

| I posted this once before and the entire thread was rudely pulled. Now I'm going to ask again. Why was the 53" hybrid that was caught on Grindstone Lake by a walleye fisherman on the Indian Trail Resort muskie chart? Does this chart include fish that are caught on lakes other than the Chippewa Flowage? On this chart the fish was said to have been caught on a cisco kid topper. Have any of you ever heard of a walleye fisherman using a cisco kid topper? There was even talk of a line class record with this fish. I feel some answers are in order here. |
