| Hi all,
I've just inherited a 1988 Tuffy Marauder console (my first boat). I'm really excited to clean it all up. First thing, is that there is a patch on the bottom of the boat (about 12 inches in diameter, midway between stern and bow) from where the previous owner repaired a hole. The repair appears solid, as the boat doesn't leak, but I'd like to clean it up a bit, as the edges are all ragged and it appears that there may be some fiberglass backing that extends over the edge of the hole.
So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean this area up and make it blend in nice with the rest of the hull? It seems as though I'd have to sand down the excess fiberglass/resin, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | You really should go through the floor and add fiberglass to the inside before sanding the outer 'patch'. Cut a hole big enough to get your hand through, you can but access ports that will cover it up when you are done. Make SURE you seal the floor end grain anywhere you cut it with silicone sealant and seal all fasteners.
To sand the outer patch, start with 600 grit and lightly bring the surface to level. Then use wet sanding paper, and when level and as nice as you want it, buff with polishing compound. If color matters to you, you will need to spray gel coat on the newly leveled surface, and somewhat complicated process, or use epoxy paint following all recommended prep procedures to a T. | |

| Thanks Steve, that's what I was looking for! Hope you don't mind, but I'm sure I'll have more questions, especially over the winter. I want to trick it out like some of the other Tuffys I've seen on here.
