A buddy and I got out last night from 12 to 1:30 in his boat on a whim. On the 14th cast of his musky fishing career, he stuck this beast on a TopRaider. We didn't realize we had nothing to measure it with. My first thought was 45, but after seeing the pics, I think I might have had a few too many last night. Now I'm thinking closer to 48. Any thoughts or guesses? Thanks!

Looks like a hawg to me -- could pass for 50-51 inches. From some of the minners I've seen called 50's that looks more like one than 50% of the those. MD

A piece of line works, then just measure the line once you get in...

Nice fish! Turn the flash on though. I would guess 46-48. I agree with Dan though, it could pass for a 50 more than many of the other fish that are claimed to be 50". Either way that's one helluva start to your buddy's career. I'll bet he's hooked!

Yeah, it's a bad pic. Camera phone. We would have found a way to measure had the fish not COMPLETELY INHALED the Super Topraider. It was gone. We had a hell of a time cutting the hooks out and it was bleeding pretty bad. We just snapped the pic quick and let her go. In the excitement and pressure of surgery, plus Vinny shaking and quivering uncontrollably, I don't think I took time to realize that fish might have been closer to 50 than 45. I'm going to say 49 I think, that gives a new musky nut something to strive for. You don't want your kid shooting a 190 class buck on opening day. He's ruined for life!

Close to 50. The size of the fish's head is the giveaway...it's a nice fish.

How tall is your buddy? Looks like a really nice fish. I would say 48+ regardless of his height.

i'd say 48 to 50 for sure, maybe a touch longer... I looked through some of my pics and I had a 49.5 with about the same hold and distance from camera and it's right in that ballpark...50" is a great way to start !! better go buy a bump board, and easy on the cold ones next time out.. ; )
congrats to the angler!
