| Has anyone used the 955c unit from Humminbird? Looking to get a new unit and was told this would be a good unit to look at.
How clear is the screen in the sun?

| I've got the 1197 with SI I'm not sure if the 955 has SI or not, but it is a very worthwile feature once you learn how to use it a little. It's a little goofy if your fishing a lake that just has weedlines as there isn't much to look at except marking inside/outside points. But holy when you get it on some rockier structure it is awsome. Especially if your trying to find that one rockpile in the middle of nowhere that usually takes you 20 min driving around in circles to find. One pass with SI throw a waypoint on the top and your fishing.
As far as the screen it is better than the Lowrance LCX series for viewing in bright sunlight and with polarized glasses on. In fact I don't think I've had to tilt my head once in order to see it through my sunglasses like you sometimes have to do with other finders. One thing is that I know Hbird is pretty specific with what you use to clean the screen with since they have special coatings on it, (so that you can see it in the bright sun) and they cannont be reapplied. I've used Windex Vinegar cleaner and a product called Sparkle (its purple in a windex like sprayer) that work well. | |
