Location: Nebraska | I have gone to pretty much floro across the board, except for jerkbaits which still get a single strand. What leader is better for 'dawgs? It seems like single strands seem to foul up when casting. Are floros the better choice? I think some of it is my casting technique and I get some bait tumbling on the cast. Two more weeks unitl our annual Minaki trip! |

Location: Racine, Wi | I think in this case, you're going to get quite a few different answers. Personally, I use 130# floro for my dawgs (all sizes). Like Will said, they will get inhaled or eaten head first, but (knock on wood), to this day, I haven't been bitten off on a dawg yet.
Make sure to check your floro if you use it though, because if a fish hits and doesn't get hooks, or if you just got one, you don't want to throw a leader that's all nicked up.

| I"ve had no problems using 130# fluoro stealth leaders with the regular dawgs. Just change the stringease snaps when they look like they need to be replaced. Good luck.

As Joel says, just keep an eye on it for nicks...if you get one simply switch it and keep the components to use on another leader.
both work though...whatever you like
Stealth is a great leader you can buy in most stores these days. |

Location: Nebraska | Yes, I use Stealth floros exclusively now, 130 lb. I'll give them a try on the dawgs. If nothing else, they won't kink up the leader like the singles when they fouled and you pull the bait in sideways. It's funny, you always know when they are fouled when they hit the water. You can feel them hit, then pull when they dive straight into the water and you know you just wasted a cast.

wasted cast? Biggest fish ive caught on a bulldawg came on a "dawgball"
Caught a few on "Dawgsalad" as well

If/when the hooks get tangled on the leader pull the bait w/ rod straight up then give it complete slack on the fall and give it a couple taps on the way down, they'll come unhooked. If it doesn't work the first time repeat. I'm able to make this work about 90% of the time. |

Location: Michigan | Single strand wire all the way for me. It takes some time to get used to but after awhile casting dawgs is a breeze and dawgballs rarely happen. A nice lob cast is all you really need and the bait won't do any flips in the air. I think most people try to throw them too hard which makes the bait do summersaults and get tangled. |

Location: Ontario | 250lbers from Stealth for mags and Pounders work very well. You'd have to put them in a bad spot and apply way too much pressure to the fish to bust one of these. Very high-quality leaders, after about the first wknd I was leaning into Pounders on the cast with them. I just can't see that set-up failing. They (John @ Stealth) ships fast and deals with your inquiry fast too.
