Location: In the cabbage | Hey guys I was at Cabelas and walked into the bargain cave and spotted a 7ft med power med fast action shimano compre . I was thinking this rod MIGHT work to throw smaller baits for Musky in the spring( jointed Rapalas, smaller bucktails, ect ). What do you guys think? Any chance of success with this? And any ideas for a reel would be great!

| i have a shimano compre and a convergence. Haven't used them in a while but i never had any issues with these rods. They seem to do quite well. I mainly used them for fishing bucktails. The compre goes for a little over $100 and the convergence from what i recall was around the $80 range. |

| They are decent rods for the price and warrenty, and the one you mentioned would probably be just fine. If you already have an MH rod, then I would think that it would work just fine for your applications mentioned. I'm to the point I have too many rods for specific applications. After using them, I'm finding that certain combo's are much more versitile than originally thought. So I am starting to get rid of stuff and trying to pack less on my outings. |

I have three Shimano Compre Rods, all 7 footers, 2 medium fast and 1 medium, great rods, you'll like them. Lifetime Warranty doesn't hurt either. Good luck.

| I have one that I use for smaller baits and it seems to work pretty good. I wish it was a 7'6 though. I caught a 41" on a figure 8 and it did just fine. That's the biggest I caught on it. I hope this helps |

I have two medium heavy and one heavy rods. And I through 8's, 9's, and 10's. Reels are Abu 5500 and 6500 with power handles.

You can just about through anything, but for how long. My rods are good for 3/4 to 2 ounces, 1/2 to 3 ounces, and 1 to 3 ounces.

| I have a curado on mine. I typically just throw stuff that weighs 1.5ounces or less and doesn't pull very hard.
I wouldn't throw 8's with mine. I have other set ups for that. |

I would guess that one you get a MH rod (if you don't already have one), this rod will not see much use for musky fishing. If that wre to happen, this rod would would probably be a decent bass Frog rod I would think. |
