Talking to some guys up in this area it seems that it has been a VERY slow year. Lots of pressure and tournament pressure on Bone and Deer recently is not helping. Add to that the winter issues Bone had....I would say your best bet is the Apple.

Good luck.

I would go to Wappogassett, Cedar, or even Big Trade Lake. All of these lakes have a good muskie pop. and far less fishing pressure.

Wappo is right in the area, Cedar and Big Trade are within 20 min of the polk co area.

Blake lake can be hit or miss as well.

Really appreciate the help! It is out of the ordinary to hear that fishing is slow in this area. Usually is a great numbers game up there! Maybe it will turn around near the fall? Any advise on Trade lake or Blake? Have never fished either one. Never really had to leave Deer or Bone for that matter. Usually tons of action on these lakes.

Blake lake is very small. You can literally fish the whole lake in a half a day or so. The weeds are always changing and you really cannot make a bad cast on that lake. There are some very nice fish to be had out there.

I have had multiple fish days and days where I scratch my head out there so, like any lake, it can be hit or miss.

There is a creek that connects big and little blake lake, and especially after some rain if there is some current it can be a really good area. The shallow bays on each end hold fish, but again, find the best weeds and fish the edges.

Trade lake is a little bigger, but basically you can fish the breaklines. There are a couple islands/humps to pay some attention to as well.

Don't forget about Wappogassett and Cedar - very good options.....

Thanks again! We rented a cabin on Deer so we will start there and then venture out. We have a full week and plan on exclusively fishin Musky. It will be a good time exploring some new water too. I have caught tons of fish on Deer, Bone and Apple, but really look forward to trying out some of the other lakes that you have mentioned. I also hear that Big Round has some BIG fish swimming in it. Probably start with the go to baits, black bucktails, hawg wobblers, crane baits and maybe some reef hawgs. This should be an eventful trip and I hope to come back with some good reports!

The bloom on Bone Lake was pretty bad over this past weekend. There was a tournament on Bone and Deer that weekend and a total of 6 fish caught from each lake with 74 boats fishing. That is the meaning of tough

doesnt sound right to me, ive had a good year on deer but only on one specific pattern. it seems if I'm not using that pattern I'm wasting my time.

I have fished all of those places before. All have tons of fish in them. I also would try cedar. Lots of nice sized fish and also some really big ones.

The Algae bloom has been milder this year due to the lower temps, but right now it is probably at its peak. Fishing has been slow for me this year, but that doesn't mean much for everyone else.

Any recents reports? I fished deer over the weekend for 8 hours and squat. I only saw one small muskie. It has been slow....hope you guys are doing better and having more luck. I think I am going to give up on deer for a bit and try some of the other lakes in the area. Does Cedar have a decent launch? is it easy to get in and out of?

Cedar has a great launch at the old school house on the north side, off of Cty M. I would be worried about the bloom out there, though. This year has been better than most, but usually it is 6 inches of solid slime this time of year.

I'm looking for some info on Big Trade lake. I've never fished it before, but I'm going to be taking an inlaw out for his very first musky trip ever and I'm looking for a good lake in that area. What are the water color and weeds like? Is it an easy lake to fish? PM if you like.
Thanks,
Grass
