Did anyone modify any baits this summer, and if so, do they work.

I took a 5" pig and built a mean flaptail out of it. Its even Steve Worrall approved..[]

About 3 weeks ago I was bored out of my mind with the hot weather and lack of hungry fish. So I decide to bring one of the boxes in the house and file hooks and see what other kind of trouble I could cause[]

Been using some of them Manta's but having too many blow-ups and not enough hook sets so somewhere in my little mind I'm think'n "maybe a little tinsel on the tail, yea that might get'em to swallow it"..

I don't tie baits so the only place in my house where there's extra tinsel is in the wifes x-mas decorations [:0]

Well I now have a Lac Suel Perch Colored Manta with about 4 or 5 5" pieces of gold tinsel coming off the tail. Haven't had a chance to fish it yet to see if the fish like it or if the tinsel will stay on for more than 10 casts but the other night I pitched it a few times at the boat landing by the house and it looks good when you keep it moving.

Oh one more thing.....before any of you try this at home, make sure the x-mas decoration you cut up isn't one of the wifes favorites.....I learned that one the hard way a few years ago [:halo:]

I bought 8 unpainted Reef Hawgs from R&H and spent some quality time in the garage. Have vacation up in Vilas Sept 15-22 and will have at least one Reef Hawg tied on at all times. Lots of fun trying out some new colors. Thanks to Mr Moore for turning me onto epoxy that I can spray out of my airbrush. Leaves a very nice,thin,rock-hard finish. Can`t wait to get `em all chewed up. Beav

I have a few dandies so far this year...the best has got to be a 10" fin-S shad in place of the tail on shallow invaders. Slow cranked it beats the slithering action of my former #1 homemade lure - a jointed 9.5" shallow crank (aptly named the snake). When twitched I have to convince new boat partners that I'm not using live bait.

Another beaut of 2001 is an 11" homemade manta I made out of superhard polystyrene with a 1/4" thick (and heavy) HUGE acrylic tail (so I don't have to add a bunch of lead to make her dance). The action of that thing is simply out of this world. Tap, tap, JERK and she squirts 4-5 feet off to the side like a bullet, s l o w l y coming to a stop.

I took a weighted burt and cut it short and made a shorter squirly burt. It's a slow sinker and catches, well 12" bass and pike so far but have had some follows on it. It's still 10" long.

Added weight systems to a few floating squirley burts and added some extra rattles to one.

Added a weight to my wades wobbler, she hangs perfect.

Made some big and I mean big tube spinners. These tubes are 8" long. Made some spinners out of those big berkely grubs too. I will bring a couple to sell at smokey's aug. 25th.[:p]

I haven't done any of my own yet, but I now have in my possesion a Suick that was modified and tuned by Dave Dorazio! Also came with personal instruction on how to work it properly.

Dave removes the rear treble, and then pulls and holds the middle treble back and up with a small rubber band. He says it keeps the hooks from tangling. Don't ask me what he does to tune it. He turned his back on me every time he worked on it!

It still works like a typical Suick, but now it also glides to the sides. Now I just have to keep working it till I get confident with it.

Regards,

Shep

Just get ahold of Moores Lures. He`s got it in his catalog. It`s a 2-part epoxy that you can thin. It works great. Just make sure that you order extra thinner so you can clean the living tar out of your air-brush.

A mold to produce a mounting panel that will house the climate control system in Pontiacs and Chevy’s. Not a fishing lure, but it gets me the cash to buy your cool inventions. With me goofing off on the boards so much, you guys wonder why cars cost so much? Lol…[] I call it “multi-tasking”[;)]

While visiting my parents this spring I found a hairy, soft bodied muskrat looking cat toy that my mom planned to throw out. About 8 inches long, tan with brown bars, rawhide tail, nose, eyes, whiskers. I used .045 wire, propeller, two 7/0 mustad spinnerbait hooks, solid and hollow beads and made a bait that IS a baby muskrat churning along the surface or just underneath.
It pulsates and is beautiful. Did not use it enough to experience any action, but I am going shopping for baits at the pet store when I have more time. Don
