Looking at renting a houseboat next year with the family and towing the fishing boat behind. I think it would be a pretty cool to way to muskie fish different sections of a larger lake. Anybody have any experience doing this? I found an article using google about houseboat muskies- pretty interesting read. Besides the cost, what ere some of the other cons? Thanks in advance

Check out Vermilion Houseboats on Lake Vermilion.

I see them every day out on the lake, and I would think that would be a blast with the right people.
A very cool way to enjoy a week on the best Muskie Lake in America !

wilderness house boat rentals in morson is an awsome way to experience lotw I have done this a number of times and it is a great way to stay in the areas you like to fish were there are no lodges. If you plan on going far gas can get expensive.

At first I thought this thread said housecoat monkeys. Nothing I hate more than a fat, slovenly, housecoat wearing monkey sitting around all day eating circus peanuts and fluffernutter.

I did a houseboat trip with 6 other guys back in 2001 on LOTW (sabaskong bay) out of moroson. If you're serious about muskie fishing and pound the water 10-12+ hours per day, I'm not sure how effective a houseboat is. During our trip, we drove the boat just a few miles away from home base the first afternoon and parked at a recommended spot. We ended up leaving the boat there the entire trip. When we returned the boat, they were extremely surprised at the lack of fuel use - tank was still nearly full! We definitely didn't take advantage of getting to a remote location, but we didn't need to waste valuable fishing time moving to a new location and re-setting back up. As far as using lots of gas goes, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Last year my friend and I split $542 for gas in our fishing boat for the week we were on Sabaskong bay - GPS reported that we spent 85 hours and traveled 350 miles on the water. If you're there with your family, you might have more of an opportunity to move around and take advantage of what a houseboat has to offer. Staying on the boat was comfortable and enjoyable. If you have other specific questions, ask away.

My family and I did a week with Vermilion House boats on lake vermilion in 2002 and had a great time. Fish during peak hours and move the boat during non-peak hours. A great way to stage from different areas of the lake.
