HI,

I used suckers on a quick strike rig and did really well last fall. I am going on a 10 day musky fishing trip ton the UP of michigan and probably wont be able to find many musky suckers. I was wondering what other types of fish you can put on quick strike rigs and have a chance of a musky hittiing it. I was thinking perch?

i am going to attempt to catch som suckers in the river im fishing on but if that fails what othr types of fish work?

thanks,

steve

"Any fish (except lampreys, live carp, and goldfish) and frogs may be used as bait when legally taken and possessed." from michigan dnr website. im not transporting fish or anything. im going to catch the bait on the same lake/flowage im fishing on.

SM Bass. They will fight and move very well with the musky nearby. I know the musky in LSC down here love the SM bass.

Try Luckey's in Iron River and the first bait shop you see in Crystal Falls( I think it's called Dave's or DR's) they both have musky suckers.

We've done well on big bluegills, they seem to attract muskies in a special way! Also bullheads, if you can find some.

Bullheads or smallmouth are both fantastic. Tough as nails and always moving.

if you go with a guide he should know what they are eatting(bait fish or game fish) and then just catch some of them.

The brat wouldn't make it into the water in my boat!

blue gill or perch. Hook a single treble in the back and set the hook right away

If you used a SM, it would have to be of legal size.

I know some smallmouth fisherman who would react as harshly to a smallie being used for bait as just about anybody here (including me) would react to keeping a "legal" musky...

Anything you use would have to be of legal size (and it counts against your daily bag limit) Check your state/local regs.

On the hard water I run bluegills on tip ups for pike and tigers. (Catch a lot of monster largemouth on them as well

I agree with Musky JR. Go with ciscos if they are in the lake you fish. They work very well.

There are waters in WI where raw brats are the secret bait for pike in the winter. They work!!! Don't laugh until you have tried them.
