| I own the big dawg, which for me is perfect for db 10's, heavy plastics and the such and the "bass" mega swimbait rod, which for me is perfect for db 8's, shad raps and the such. where does the sling fit in that mix? my guess is that it is closer to the mega swimbait blank with a bit "softer" top end. could the sling be pretty much the "same" as the mega swimbait blank but with it being in the "musky" category of croix rods musky anglers now are "buying into it":) |

Location: Waconia, MN | The big dawg rod is an extra heavy and the sling blade is only a heavy rod. The sling blade has a softer tip being that it is a heavy and was developed for throwing bucktails. The big dawg rod was made more for throwing some of the bigger plastics like mags and pounders but it also does work for throwing the big blades. As far as the difference between your mega bass rod and the sling blade the bass rod is lighter but I wouldn't think it would be built as heavy either. I'm sure on the sling blade the line guides are beefier, its 6 inches longer, plus it has a longer handle. I would imagine overall its mainly built for tackling large fish compared to the bass rod. Overall I would say it is built more heavy duty.

i should have added my croixs are custom to 8'10" with 16-18" rear grips. the "bass" mega swimbait blank is rated at 3-8 oz baits but since it is in the "bass" category its' "xh" rating may be the "same" as the sling blades' "heavy" rating...? |

Location: Smith Creek | No, the sling is beefier than the mega swim. Totally different taper. Blank specs are on SC's website in the rodbuilders catalog 4c80xhf weighs 4.4 oz and 4m86hf weighs 6.2. and those 1.8 oz are not in the last 6 inches of the blank. Comparing their bass series to muskie series even if a few of the specs are the same is apples to oranges. (by the way, I own the sling and the mega swim) |

| thanks flam,
i was hoping to here from someone who has experience with both...
i have caught quite a few muskies on both now and the swimbait rod certainly bends deeper into the blank with a fish hooked vs the big dawg. i just have to pay a little more "attention" in keeping a bend in the dawg rod vs the swimbait rod which takes care of that on its' own...
