| trolling topwater...never done that. However, I've been considering trolling bucktails. While fishing in Canada, a guy told me they had caught a couple of muskies 50"+ while trolling bucktails. So, I'm interested in seeing how others respond. Interesting topic..... | |

You don't troll bucktails......!!!!! You are missing out large. it's very rare that I'm trolling and don't have a inline bucktail or a spinner bait in the water. Were allowed two rods each here so it makes that a little easier but even if it was only one rod I'd still almost always have a spinner of some sort out. As far as trolling top waters go I run them off a small inline planer board and most of the time its a buzz bait or a Super Top Raider.

Location: Ontario, Canada | I've trolled Super Topraiders, Tally Wacker, Pacemaker, thunderhead, Water Chopper, American Hardwood lures.
Also, trolled inline spinners. However, my best luck trolling spinners has been with the safetypin type baits such as Fudally musky Candy Spin and Hawg Spin,
Pearson Grinders, and Beavertail. I've had some success with these methods over time.
I've found that trolling these baits sometimes works after I've casted for hours and not seen a muskie. Other times there is no action trolling them and only casting works, not to mention some days are real skunkers no matter what method is used. It's a matter of not discounting any method/approach, cause you never know whats going to bring that one big'un to the fight. Oh yea, my best luck trolling topwaters seems to be on the larger models most of the time. Al
