I have it in my head that I am getting a Toro. I want the bigger size but am unsure about the gear ratio. I am leaning towards the new winch because I plan on using it for double tens. Has anyone fished this reel yet. I hear they are starting to show up in stores. How does the 5.4:1 work for double tens? Thanks.

While the "winch" may make cranking the "load" of a double 10 easier, it won't be fast enough to burn them. So far, the reviews of the 5.4:1 have been pretty favorable, but I'll let others chime in on that...

I have been using an abu 5500 temporarily (if I wreck this reel it won't upset me) and it is like reeling in an anchor each time. Yesterday I borrowed an abu 7000i with low gear ratio and it was a breeze to reel the DCG. I was fishing it so fast that it was almost blowing out of the water. Will the Toro 5.4:1 have more torque than the abu 5500 with the same gear ratio???? AND, wouldn't the Toro Winch be fast enough to burn these baits if you really crank fast. I'd rather crank fast than ruin a reel and my hand by muscling these baits in!! Any more opinions - I may be way off base. My wife says I am wrong often!!

Go with the TORO 60 in 5.4;1 it has a line pickup of 26" per turn of the handle and will handle DCG10-13 with ease. The 4.6;1 has a line pickup of 23" per turn of the reel handle and would be a great reel for slow rolling DCG10-13 at night time, but a little to slow for the day time. It is so cool that a reel co has step up to the plate for musky reels. Landry I know what you are saying but after 8 hours of reeling with a 4.6:1 gears you will be beat. The Toro main gear is 40mm tall and the 5500-6500 Abu reels are 31mm tall so you can see that the Toro will have torque. So on a 100ft cast with the Toro 4.6:1 you turn the handle 52 times and on the Toro 5.4:1 you will turn the reel handle 46 times, 6 more times for the Toro 4.6:1 gears. after say 1000 casts in a day that is 6000 more turns of the reel handle for the 4.6:1 gears. I wish a retail store would have loaner reels so you could try them out for yourself before you buy one.
