Lowrance GPS issues

I've got a lowrance 38 series, pretty new unit. Constantly cycling through position lost and position acquired. At times it seems random and at times it's on a 10 minute cycle. When on the cycle, the only thing that cures it is a power cycle, then upon powering it up, it immediately acquires position even if it had lost it for 35+ minutes prior to that and wouldn't reacquire.

Tried several contacts for lowrance, no response from email and 2+ hours on hold which I just can't do during their hours, pretty ridiculous.

Anybody else had this happen? I have two pucks and both produce the same results, also did the 2.4 update with no change. I think i'm down to getting a refund at this point and moving on for good.

TIA-
JR

I've got a 38 as well that once in a while seemingly always about 20 minutes before the sun goes down it does that....is yours doing it about sunset?
could just be something w/ the sun/satellites etc???
the other thing is make sure there is nothing blocking your puck...has to have a clear view of the sky...setting a pop can near it will even mess it up....even a bunch of rod tips over the puck
Mine does lose position once in a while for no good reason and I have had to turn it off and back on but it clears it up....Hope you can figure yours out...so far mine has been a great unit despite a couple little quirks...

It's not related to sunrise/set. When I check the satellites page, it's got a full list with good signal, the fun part is that my 520 is on the console and NEVER loses signal so I'm 99% sure it's related to the 38 unit. The puck is mounted on the hull with a free view of the sky, unobstructed.

If it was once in a while, I wouldn't care. But this is constantly and seemingly at random. I should take a picture of the screen of my trail from last saturday, there are about 50 start/stop points on the trail from a 4 hour stint on a 1200 acre lake. Fishing in the wind and trying to stay at/on/near a specific location is impossible with the unit doing this. Most of those start stop points required me to stop fishing and power cycle the unit for it to keep working.

Has it always been this way, or has it just suddenly started? I had that when I installed my 27C and my issue was WAAS. Do you have "require WAAS" selected (I think in the GPS set up menu)? If so, de-select that. Fixed mine.

It has always been this way, it's only about 5 weeks old. WAAS is deselected...

My boat is in the shop for some repairs and maintenance (there are rocks in Sabaskong!). I have an LCX-38hd. Great unit, but the GPS "puck" is a weak link in the system. Once I get my boat back I'll be on my 3rd "puck" in 13 months. That's what I would check.

JRedig, my suggestion is, since your 520 is working and I'm assuming that you have your 38 and 520 networked and running off one puck, take the puck and hook it directly to the 38 and see if it works without cutting out.

After talking with my Lowrance contract about your issue, he and I both think you may have a problem that is within your network, either your t's or your cables that are running back and forth from the units.

They are not networked, they are individually rigged, each with their own puck. Still no response from lowrance either, 4+ days.

Ok, well since your not networked, I'm betting you have a bad puck. I'll walk you through some other steps tonight on the phone that will verify whether it's the puck or the unit.

TJ, thanks so much for taking the time to chat about this, it is truly appreciated. Please throw a rotten egg at the lowrance people for their awful support...lol.

Theory goes if the puck is mounted too close to the unit, it can cause interference. So i'm gonna try mounting it at least 3 feet away and see. That or a bad puck which I haven't seen the symptoms of on the signal screen. Fun part, tonight out for about 4 hours, didn't lose position once on the same lake and shoreline as last saturday!
