I have been out on Leech some nad have not done well. The last time out (9 days ago now) I saw three fish and that was the best I have done there this year so far. I haven't been hearing of a lot of fish being caught yet.

I fish Leech routinely - primarily Portage Bay and the Pelican Island area. Here is what I am finding thus far in Portage. On the west side of the bay in the Two Points vicinity, there are very few weeds south of the Safe Harbor. The weeds that are present are holding muskies - lots of them, and it doesn't seem to matter where the weeds are located on the flat. North of the Safe Harbor, it seems to be a different story. The weeds are incredible but the fish seem to be congregated on bars (or portions of bars) that are close to deep water. Bars up on top of the flat, far away from the break, aren't producing anything for me, anyway. Topwaters have been accounting for most of the fish all summer. Fish of 38", 42", and 49" ate topwaters during the last two outings with numerous other follows/blow-ups. I did however, loose a beast of a fish on an Eagle Tail in the cabbabe at Two Points yesterday. Also, the weeds at Five Mile Point are the best I've seen in years, but it does get pounded. I had seven lookers up on topwater there yesteday but no takers. Normally, the bull rushes would be producing fish by the time you get here but the water is still so clear that the rush bite may not happen for a while (or at all for that matter) this year. In recent years I have been popping a few fish by trolling the sand flats adjacent to the bull rushes under these clear water conditions during the skinny water bite. Wind helps. Haven't ventured to Pelican yet this year so I can't help you there. Good luck.

I won't be fishing the MAC later this month. Weather permitting, I will definitely be out Sunday and if I can con my wife into leaving a wedding early on Saturday, I will be out Saturday evening as well. Good luck.

David, what type of topwaters are you getting them on? Prop, walk-the-dog, creeper, ect.

With waves under about one foot, I've seeing and catching quite a few fish on Weagles. Anything more than that, and I turn to prop-style lures that do well in waves. A traditional favorite has been the magnum Pacemaker. However, I bought a new (to me) bait at the Muskie Expo this winter called a "prop dog" (I think) made by Nimmer Swimmer. This is proving to be a dynamite bait in the waves as well. Plus ,it's got four fish up to 50" under it's belt so far. Good luck out there.

I like black/orange combinations. I think in Rollie & Helen's catalog it's considered a special color this year. Good luck.

That's the one. She stuck a 52" Leech Lake slob a few years back on her maiden voyage and she's been in the starting lineup ever since! Best of luck to you.
