| Does anyone have any experience with Ganders Pro Select models? I am looking at the 8'6" models and cannot decide between the Heavy or the Xtra Heavy.
This rod will be used mainly for double 10's.
Thanks |

Location: beloit | I got the 8'6" xtra heavy a few weeks ago and really like it, I use it for dbl 10s mostly but have thrown almost everything with it. |

Same here. I got this rod before they had anything longer. But I would think the 8-6 H would be a great rod for double 10s. If you want to throw big plastics with it as well, I would probably go to the XH.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I have the 8' XH, and my brother has the 8'6 XH. That extra 6" gives way too much flex to burn/figure 8 properly IMHO. You can't do a speedy F-8 with it. I love my 8' XH. It throws Pounders perfectly too. |

| I have the 8ft mh and it handles the dbl 10 fine. For me it is more how I hold the rod. Tip up is hard, tip low is much easier.
I just picked up the 8 1/2 mh and do not have much time with it.
Both seem like good rods for the money. |

its bad I just got it a month ago and can't remeber how much I paid, I think they are 80$ and they are rated 2-6oz.

I don't agree with this at all. the first fish I caught on was in the 8 and I don't think it flexes to much. the only reason I would go with a shorter rod is if it doesn't fit in the rod locker. |

I was actually only referring to the use of double 10's as 55esox said he will be using it mostly for this.

The rod handles great for lures that don't have as much pull through the water. But when you're trying to move a DCG in a big circle VERY fast,.... well... it just doesn't work. |

| Guys,
Thanks for all your advise. I went with the 8'6" Pro Select Heavy action, and put it to good use chuckin' double 10's up in Canada.
I have to say, for the money you cannot beat that rod. I have a plethora of St Croix's (premiers and avids) and found it to be a very fine rod to fish with. The metal rod tip was a definate plus, as I did plow my share of double 10's into the rod tip while fighting waves.
As far as the action, I was pleased with the Heavy for all around use for double 10's. I didn't notice too much fatigue or loss of speed (nor did the 6 fish i caught on 8's). I liked the tip for getting the baits out there, the rod had plenty of backbone, and was an all around great rod. I am sure the X Heavy would do fine, maybe a little less flex in the figure 8, but also a little less flex for casting?
All said and done, it is a great rod for the money.....heck, for the price I'll probbaly get the X heavy anyway. |
