Nice fish gentlemen!

I was in Oshkosh covering the last FLW Walleye Tour event of the year on Lake Winnebago the last four days, no fishing for me this weekend. Lots of fishing this week though.

Matchfishing on Saturday, so the boys and I got up at oh dark thirty and set upon the ritual coffee, hot chocolate and doughnut pre-game breakfast. I really wanted to see Nik hook up w/ his first casting muskie but that was not to be the case.

After about an hour of rather fruitless casting, he decided to begin lobbying hard to troll. I relented and ate a huge helping of crow as his rod starts singing even before I get the whole spread set out. So I clear what was out (not all that much) while he fights the fish to the boat. After a couple rather dramatic boatside runs, a 37"er slides into the net. Must be a fluke...
Well, at least I get all the lines out before the second fish hits - an inside boat rod so no planers to mess with anyway. I start reeling this one in and Dane asks if he can reel it in. So how do you say 'no' to a 5 year-old wanting to fight a muskie? Anyway, I handed him the rod and grabbed the net. After a short battle, we slip a 34" fish in for it's photo op.
Two fish in less than 10 minutes of trolling - Nik is really rubbing it in now! The rest of the morning was less eventful w/ regard to catch rate, but the boys allowed me the next trolling fish (which incidentally, was more than 2 hours later). I was rewarded with a 40" fish that gave us a couple of white knuckle moments as I was determined to let Nik net it (gotta learn sometime, right?). Finally, the heat was getting a bit much (heading for a high of 104F today), and the pleasure craft traffic was becoming unbearable so we decided to call it at about 11:30 - with one caveat. I told the boys we could go if they let me cast for the last 1/4 mile before we get to the ramp. Redemption was mine as a 35"er fell for the WA Baby Wabull about 200 yards before the ramp!
So the rundown:
37" trolling a Krusher
34" trolling a J-13
40" trolling a Super Shad Rap
35" casting WA Baby Wabull
Water temps 73-74F, calm to light east wind, sunny and getting hot;
Off the water and in the driveway by 1:00

Oh, Nik was also able to land a 36-38 size...someone is going to be powerfully embarrassed when they get out of the water!
S.

it's July, right? with the c-o-l-d weather this weekend i'm starting to wonder. lows on Friday night were in the 40s in northern WI and highs only in the 50s on Saturday. water temps were in the mid-60s...sheesh.

in spite of this, Slamr, Winston, Justin and i had a great weekend. fishing was a tad slow, but we put a couple decent fish in the boat(s). we stayed at Oneida Village in Three Lakes, and Friday night's karaoke was something not to be missed when Winston took everyone on the Highway to Hell...

I took a friend out on Pewaukee this morning who had never muskie fished before or used a bait casting reel. In short order was casting like a pro....kind of.
We saw 11 with the biggest two over 40". I think all of you heard him screaming as they followed in his Rabid Squirrel Spinner bait!
We have another muskie addict in the making!
Water temperatures are 71-73 degrees. Normally it would be in the middle 80's this time if year. Other than seeing them and not catching them, this has been great!

I fished pewaukee friday got a 43" and my brother got a 33.5", seen 9 others including one real hawg we raised 4 different times. My buddy I took out that never caught a musky, seen a couple real nice fish and lost one at boatside so he was pretty pumped. Went out saturday with just me fishing, girlfriend had net duties since she's still not fishing. Ending up getting 4 on saturday 30, 32.5, 34, and a 43, also lost 1 more fish early in the morning when I was by myself. All the fish still coming on blades and topwater. Pretty good weekend for the crappy weather we had. Didn't find a real pattern though, fish are really scattered all over, weedlines, flats and off the weedlines suspending. Still seeing bluegills off my pier so as long as they are there, I'm casting. Good weekend overall, 6 more days till AML. Ran into sam ubl on friday, he was slaughtering them also in 30 minutes he had two, took a picture of his 2nd one.

Friday and saturday were a bust due to high winds. Hit it on sunday morning for 6 hours before work and got a 39" on the figure eight. Had another strike that I blew with my special ed hookset, and 2 or 3 small follows.

The fun part was when a carp jumped out of the water a few feet from the boat and scared the hell out of me!

Went back home this past weekend and floated a small river in search for a few muskies. I ended up getting a low-30" musky on a Weagle and raised 5 more with no more hits in about 3 hours of fishing...always fun to get back to where I started fishing. If you guys have smaller rivers nearby, fish them...quiet, away from the crowds and they provide good action. When we got back to Oneida Cnty last night, we headed out for about two hours and my fishing partner got one right around 34" on a Curly Sue. We'll be headed out somewhere in Oneida today and fishing late.
Keep the reports and pics coming.

And yes Lambeau, the weather up here has been ridiculous; but the fishing has remained OK. We've camped probably a dozen times this summer and the warmest it's been was the first two night up on LVD. We hit the 30's twice a few weeks ago!

JoeCal, nice fish. Did you guys head up to Canada yet?
Zak, glad to hear you're on top of them down there. We've noticed the same thing as you this year...there doesn't really seem to be a pattern with the location of muskies at all; they're all over the place from shallow to open-water and everywhere inbetween. Our best baits have been topwaters and curly sues with several more coming on 2x10's.

I was able to get out on the big pond Sunday morning with my brother and Joel. It was a pretty eventful morning as I scored what has to be my largest King Salmon with a hook up to net time of around 40 minutes.

BIG BIG THANKS to Joel (tuffy1) for taking us out and sharing his seemingly endless knowledge of fishing!! Hopefully next time thedude can spend more time fishing!

Only made it out Saturday, but got a decent (length) day's worth of fishing in. Most of the day was pretty slow. Did catch a 37 on a Triple D, and lost one just a couple minutes after releasing the fish.

I've been out on quite a few very short trips this year, and nothing ever happens on the short trips. On the very few longer days I've been able to fish, I've almost always caught or at least raised fish at some point during the day. Seems like short windows?
