How did you do on the Chip? We are headed up next week July31-Aug5. Unfortunately our tribal camping island (Pine) is no longer available so we are headed up with the hopes we can secure a state island camp, this will mean exploring a different area of the Flowage than Cranberry and Church bars. Its all about the journey!

I will be leaving to go up this weekend - You can still camp on Pine Island. Cedar Tops Island has a nice camping spot. Camping out on an island is something I have always wanted to do.

I was just up a couple weeks ago. Moved some fish in the afternoon and late in the evening.

A guide friend of mine has been doing pretty well recently.

Spent the 16th - 18th on the Chip. Fished Cranberry and Church bars. It was tough for us most likely due to inexperience on this water. We tried to camp on a couple different islands and almost all the LCO camp sites were closed. We waisted a lot of time trying to find a good spot. Ended up staying on the wagon wheel. Ended up with a 31" on a top raider and saw a couple fish on bucktails.

Is the LCO band closing the campsites for good? At times it was nice to be able to reserve a site and know we had one before hauling all the gear up.

The fishing was unspectacular, as the weather was pretty tough. We did camp on an LCO island, the Wagon Wheel, but most of the other LCO sites were closed. Not sure why as they looked fine and would be pretty awesome to stay on.

Are there any websites that are available with info on the camping on the Chippewa Flowage?

We called the LCO a while ago and again this week and they stated the closure of Pine, Loon, and Loon Point were all closed to preserve the integrity of the islands. We have been staying on Pine Island for the past 4 years and it was awesome. "Andrakle" are you referring to Pine Island close to Indian Trails Resort? If so and it is indeed available we will be there for sure if not we will find an island somewhere, if not we will sleep in the boats if we have too...The nostalgia of the Chip really gets our juices pumping and spending a week primitave camping is one of the greatest gifts God has given to a man. Nothing is more fullfilling than drinking HAMMS and PABST around the fire at night under the stars, acting barbaric, catching crappies for fish fry from the bog and casting for that magical fish Louie, Frenchie, Tasker, and sought after, truly magical indeed. If anyone is up there next week you will be sure to see us, Paul will be fishing out of his 20 foot Warrior duck boat and I the 16 foot white alumacraft with a pirate in the front, you will surely see us on Risbergs, Pocketook, Flemings, and Pete's and afterwards on a island lit up by torches, full of cold beer, good food and plently of stories and tom follery, stop in and say hello we will have a beer for you, last year a old buck who fishes and guides on Cave Run enjoyed the experience followed by a night at Indians Trails, life is good indeed...

Hey riverrunt, just be careful if you catch any pike, I've heard that they have sharp teeth and you wouldn't want to get cut by one.

Out on Pete's bar a two years ago I wrestled a northern into the boat and it used its lighting quick speed to strike back and sank its tooth filled jaws into my last three fingers, I reacted quick and pulled my hand out of his mouth and like being in a meat grinder my fingers where shreaded and came out looking like pulled apart string cheese, the cuts were so deep that blood began to gush out like water from the Winter Dam in the spring, I must have lost a couple pints. I began to panic so my boat partner calmed me down by delivering a solid knucklesandwich, thankfully his shot landed square between by eyes and knocked me out cold, his quick thinking surely prenvented my drowning as I was inches from going over board. Several hours later I awoke in the bottom of the boat drencehd in whiskey and covered in blood, dazed I stood up and saw we were still on Pete's Bar, looked at my hand wrapped in a blood soaked bandana and began to cast again for that elusive fish. I am most certain we would have caught a giant that day and Louie needed to save his legacy and he did so by delivering the evil attacking northern into our boat.

So I have been up on the flowage the last couple of days - Tomorrow is it for a few feeks.
I had one at the boat tonight and struggled to land it on my own when I was fighting the fish.

I have moved a couple of other fish the last few days. Everything I have seen has been on topwater right around sundown.

carnivores yes, carnival not. departure is now and towards the fox valley I head to drop of the kiddos at g-mas, I will go very slow through Oshkosh to get some of that Frency LaMay Karma going. The rest of the barbarians have landed and I will meet them at 1500 hours and surely be tangling with a muksy after a shot of "green death". Not sure what island we have secured but if you see us swing by, cant miss us just look for the bent rods and suspenders, we will be at Indian Trails frequently to ring Detloff's bell and retire some lures.
Action is closed and safety off!!!!

"Green Death" - Now I've had some of that right off HWY 17 in Tomahawk area. This tavern had bucktails hanging all over the place - Sweet joint, but a dive no question. The proceeds of the "Green Death" shot were to go to Crescent Lake.

The Flowage was a blast as always, had a good time celebrating Pete Rich's catch at the Little Red Bar after he caught it, great story and a good guy to boot. Fishing action was fare, had action every day, no connections, buddy lost a very large fish only a few yards away from where Pete got his fish and three days earlier, the rest of the barbarians are still there and I will report how they do.

Marv the weagel was used and used often, a con job indeed, the "eat me lure" is still hanging at the little red bar, I figured you would never part with it. We are planning another trip in September or October as the fishing has been great and would predict some very big fish will be caught this fall, last week a 53 inch tiger was caught and it will get better..let us know when you will be up and we will share some more green death.
