Abu Reel Question

Subject: Abu Reel Question

I like to loosen my mechanical brakes up pretty much all the way regardless of what baits that I cast. I had the mechanical brake knob fall off of my reel during a cast and watched it sink to the bottom of the lake. Is this part very necessary for a person who loosens the brake all of the way up anyway?

There's no point having it any looser than when the spool has a tiny amount of side to side movement in the frame. At that point the caps usually stay on fine. Otherwise you are just going to have to be vigilant.

You need to replace the O-RING that is below the threads, and you can wrap the threads with teflon tape, so the knob will not back off on it's own. Tighted the knob so your spool will not slap the frame.

Yes running it too loose will allow the spool to slap the frame especialy with heavy baits will will cause wear to the spool edges, possible dings in it and the frame. I had a nick in mine from that that cut my line and cost me three $25 baits before I figured out what was doing it and how it happened.

I recently purchased a record 61 ( 2 months ago) and the other day the nut that holds the handle on poped. I didnt think anything of it until it started getting loose. Then every time I would try and tighten it, it would pop loose again. Then finally the other night i was reeling in and the nut came off and went right in the drink. I guess my question is, is there an easy fix for keeping the nut tight that I could just do myself?

It should have a piece over the nut which screws in to the screw hole on the handle to stop the nut undoing itself.

It will look like this, also use some thread lock, the lightest one I think it is the blue one, just one small drop will keep the screw or nut from backing off.
