i'll be spending a long weekend in eau claire in mid october... every other year i have fished the holcombe flowage and have never even seen a fish... any suggestions for a lake in the area for this late in the season(preferably with a resort/boat rental in the area?)

Your favorite lake is only an hour and a half away. There are places you can stay for $15 a night and they have boats. I might be up too depending on how the season progresses. I’ll let you know.

Zach, I would invite you up for that weekend, but I usually plan my trips only a week or two in advance and often change them depending on weather, family, work etc… However I’ll let you know. If I’m up, there is room in the trailer for you.
Fishing that time of year can be difficult depending on conditions, if the fish are scattered, you’ll need better advice than mine. But, I can give you faster directions.

Starfire..

Mid October close to EC try Lake Eau Claire by Augusta,Wissota or Chippewa River. About 40 minutes to the north there is a group of lakes that are also good.

If you'd like e-mail me off the board or give me a call, I would be glad to help you out with info.

NWR- we're not sure what our plans are yet either- the fam is definitely going out in mid/late october- and i am planning to fly out and meet them for a 4 day weekend... and i want to try to get my dad his first muskie... and i also want to co-ordinate a packers game in some how- they are at home the 14th and at minnesota the following week- so it depends on which game we go to as which weekend we fly out... just trying to get some ideas right now though... i'll keep you posted- thanks for the offer though!

I don't fish that area often, but I've had pretty good luck on Potato lake in that area. I'ts much smaller than Holcombe, but there are some big fish.

Zach, I'm with Mark H....you can stay close to EC and fish Wissota, Lake Eau Claire or the Chippewa/Eau Claire rivers.

There are also many decent lakes just north of EC along Hwy 40 between New Auburn and Bruce.

Let me know when you'll be around and perhaps we can get out on the water.
