Anyone have any tips for fishing the flowage? I am going up this Sunday with the family for a week of musky fishing. Sounds like it is going to be quite warm! Don't want to start a flowage/Hayward bashing thread just looking for some help.
Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken,

A couple ghost tails, specifically a green blade and black tail is a good lure to have available. I would also suggest a topraider or pacemaker in your box in black also.

I am not sure where you are staying, so it is hard to give spot advice and based on my success rate, I am not sure it would help. That being said, there are lots of well known spots that can produce (flemings, petes, pork barrel, popple, eagle) I would get a nice map and start with the well known spots, but be on the lookout for nice spots just off the old river channels. Evenings tend to be better for some reason.

I would also check out Ty Sennett'sebsite, some good information can be found there also.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips. Family and I are staying at the Lake Chippewa Campground on CC near the old Hermans Landing. Flemings and Pete's are close. Just curious what the sudden hot weather will do to the musky fishing. I will give these spots a try. As for lures, thanks for narrowing that down also.

Good central location. Make sure to try Pocketbook, three sisters and little pete's also. I tend to like bucktails when sunny, and topwaters when cloudy.

R & R does a great breakfast also.

Hard to say about the weather, I am usually up there in Mid August. I know a few guides really like to night fish this time of year, but I am not sure if you are up for that.

If up for the first time, watch your maps, there are a few spots that will chop your prop, but not too many.

Fish which ever side the wind is blowing onto on Pete's.

Pitch surface baits across the tops of the bars at sunset and after dark.
Hawg Wobbler has worked for me.
Pitch bucktails & Suicks along & outside the edges of the bars during daylight.
