| What are some of the offenses people get turned away from other than DUI, minor offenses that is?
I'm just wondering because my brother got a wreckless driving offense like 3 years ago and is going to canada with my dad and I this year....would suck to drive 18 hours to get turned away at the border.
But I was wondering what people have been turned away for?
We are going to LOTW Angle Inlet, would it be smart for him to get a RABC or will he be ok with us calling customs each day? |

| if the driving offense did not involve alcohol, he's probably fine. if it involved alcohol, he could be refused entry.
if you have an offense on your record that would require demonstrating "rehabilitation", you're not eligible for an RABC.

| I would have him (and your entire group) apply for the RABC - better to find out now if there is any issue and you wont have to call every day to go into canada waters..definately worth the $30!

Thats why I was confused. LONG DAY

| Muskiewhored - what in the world are you rambling about? We know he has to call canada - His question was about getting into Canada. You call customs to fish canada because you are coming from the US- do you even know what a Remote Area Border Crossing permit is?

Location: Yahara River Chain | Just ask yourself this, was the offense a felony? The Canadians do not want to let felons in their country (who can blame them?). DWIs or OWIs are felonies in the eyes of the Canadian Government. That is why they are being refused entry.
I hope this help you. Best to check before hand though. |

| What about misdemeanors? Such as a public intox charge?
Do they refuse entry for those? How does the Candian Boarder/Customs agents view that? It is alcohol related, but it's not a felony.

Location: Oswego, IL | I do know even cetain misemeanors are also not good. Some crimes here in US that are misemeaanors may be felonies in Canada. Best to look into it regardless. Dont want to depend on someone here online, like myself. lol |

| I had a minor in possession charge a few years ago and have gone up a couple of times since. I've never been asked about anything, so it hasn't come up. In the 1O or so times I've gone through customs we've never been hassled about anything. Most that's happened is opening up the boat cover for a quick peek. The one time my dad had a hold up was when all of the food boxes were taped shut. The customs dude didn't like that and all of the boxes got opened. |

| I have had a open intoxicants ticket, and absolute sobriety, back in my idiot 18-23s!! With that said I have gotten my RABC each and every year, and still do, so I am not 100% sure on where the grey area is.
Man was I an idiot at that age |

Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | Are you guys going to be just fishing in Canadian water or will you be actually landing on Canadian soil? Down here we're on border waters, one side Michigan the other Ontario. We dont have to do a thing crossing over the border if we are just fishing only if we actually plan to land. I send half my time fishing Michigan waters and need nothing more than a Michigan fishing licence. I guess it's different up there but you figure border rules would be the same across the border so to speak.
Good Fishin'

Location: Oswego, IL | Its a messed up issue, yes technically LOTW is boundry water/international so legally you shouldnt have to (just like St clair)-BUT Ontario runs that water above thier invisible border line, IF you do not call in, NOR refused entry and go- even if you do not stand foot on inland they will bust you if they do stop you-immigration/DNR/customs all three are on the boat FYI. Yes through court you will get off, but the issue is the money you spend to get the charges dropped and pay the "Fine". Hense when you go call to go CANPASS to enter Canada water, when you come back into US you dont have to call to ask to come back -only inland. If it was such a huge issue to US and a written law, you would have to call back to come in to US from the water. Its International waters! But dont mess with the "Rules" Canada wants - Period! And again nobody with any issue should ask, say dates, or anything if they are going - get all your issues fixed before trying to fish, it will ruin your day/week/vacation. |

| I think it is kind of a don't ask don't tell at the border as I hear the resorts in Canada are almost 70% down in business this year, and they don't want border gaurds turning more paying customers away. They want our $$'s |

| Question....I received a DUI in NJ. In NJ they designate DUI as a Traffic Violation not a Criminal Offense. Do you think it matters? |

| I read an article several years ago that if you are on the NCIC (Natioanl Crime Information Center) computer the info is available to the customs agents. This is your real permanent record. |

| The border thing sounds like a pain, but sitting in the car for two hours, or even 1 hour, sounds like worse pain after driving 18 hours to get to the border. I thought about getting a passport this year, but aehhhh..... |
