How does this rod throw pounders? Enough back bone to set the hooks?

Well, the rod wasnt built to throw those baits, may want the Mag Dawg instead if thats what you are doing. I now have both rods as well. I wouldnt personally throw pounder on it, to answer your question.

The rod will handlethrowing a pounder with no problem. I use it for pounders often.

I wouldn't. Overloads the blank big time. You can exceed a rod's suggested lure rating by a few oz but doubling it is asking for trouble and possibly a voided warranty.

You can cast 'em with ease, however just as you asked, the hookset it too much for the very parabolic Slingblade. Go with the Big Dawg.
