Are due in the states on July 2nd. I have received a lot of inquiries from guys here on MuskieFirst.com asking when they will be available. I currently don't have an idea where these are going to be available but should know by the time that they arrive in on the 2nd. I would imagine that Rollie & Helen's as well as Smokey's Musky Shop will be carrying these. Here are the specs and prices that they are suggested to retail for. If anyone has any question on them... feel free to ask.

Model length Line Rating Lure Rating Retail
EVX-C-861XXH-T 8'6" 65-130# 4-16 ounces $119.99
EVX-C-931H-T 9'3" 50-100# 2-10 ounces $119.99
EVX-C-931XH-T 9'3" 65-100# 4-16 ounces $119.99

What kind of purposes/fishing applications did you have in mind when designing these new rods? How far do the 9'3" rods telescope down to? I am looking for a rod that will fish double 10s/13s to Mag Dawgs, the 931XH looks like it might be the ticket

Thanks,

Justin...
we will have a machined aluminum star drag sometime in the late summer but they will not have a levelwind on them. They have tranedous torque and pick up a lot of line but without a levelwind. I have used one and they are nice but without a levelwind, they are (like others) not very user friendly for pulling bucktails.

Graham...

We received a lot of requests for an 8'6"XXH for an all around stiff rod. This rod fits the bill. It is a fairly fast action rod with a ton of backbone. It would be a good jerkbait rod, heavy rubber rod and anything else that guys that want a stiff rod would use.

The 931H-T was designed for an all around rod with a "softer" tip. It is similar in action to the 8'6"XH which a lot of guys are using for double 10's. I will be using this rod for Mag Dawgs and Double 10's but you could get away with most smaller baits too on this rod.

The 931XH-T was designed around big rubber. It has a faster action for ripping big baits. It has a solid backbone but a forgiving tip section.

In Okuma fashion... both 9'3" rods have enough tip to help prevent ripping hooks out on big headshakes but plenty to throw baits, set the hook and play out a fish.

Do you know when they'll be in stores? I bought a sweet 8'6" heavy rod that goes with my Induron 400 from Rollie's last fall and I'm digging on it with much shovel, would love to add a 9'3" to the arsenal and put on a heavy duty cranker for double tens and big dawgs. When and who is going to carry them?

Hey Mark,
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that not a lot of retailers in Utah will carry these so I'm going to limited to mail order I suspect.
Will you have a list of options where they might be available in case the two you mentioned run short? Somehow, I don't think they'll last long and I'm not always the first to be able to peruse their inventories...

Finally! I have been waiting for the 9'3 to come out since the day I heard about it. Is there any chance any dealers in Iowa or Minnesota will carry these rods? Knowing me, I'll end up with the 8'6 XXH, and the 9'3 XXH. I'll order them if need be, but would rather buy them locally if possible.

Thanks for the answers! I will definitely be picking up a 9'3" as the 8'6" Heavy has been very good to me this year.

Saweeet!!! I've been waiting to get my hands on the 9'3" XH. Hopefully they get them in at Smokies or R&H so I can pick one up. Of course, I can't let my wife see this post. Looking forward to a solid big rubber rod.

Great news!

I have an 8'6 H and and 8'6 XH already, and I love them both. Cant wait for these rods to get here. The actions on the new rods sound awesome.

There is no better valued rod around than Okuma if you ask me.

Guys.... thanks for the questions. As I mentioned... we are working on getting this information to the dealers right now. I would think that the two that I mentioned in my first post (R&H as well as Smokey's) will carry them but they need to be told about them. Once I know where they can be purchased, i will put a reply up to let you all know.

Thanks for all the kind words regarding our rods. We exceeded our projections three fold on the existing telescopic versions last season. Thanks for the support.

Edit: Karloutdoors... they are full cork like the existing EVX rods.

Mark, how does the tip section compare with these new models against the 8'6" XH?

Mark, how does the tip section compare with these new models against the 8'6" XH?

The 861XXH-T is MUCH stigffer than the 8'6"XH. As I mentioned it is on the stiffer side of what I (and a lot of guys I know) would use. This rod will see time from me fishing a pounder occasionally.

The 9'3"H is similar in action to the 8'6"XH. This is my new Mag Dawg / Double 10 rod. It has a "softer" tip section but can still throw baits that are mag dawg size and slightly larger.

The 9'3"XH is a different action all together. Much faster action in general with a heavier tip than the 8'6"XH but still on the softer side of what a lot of manufacturers would consider an XH. It can handle pounders without a problem.

What length are the 9'3" when they are telescoped? I as well have been looking forward to the 9'3" XH.

I had a chance to use these rods this winter when I was in Tennessee.

I can tell you that you won't be disapointed. The 9'-3" H is the best DCG rod I've ever tried. If you are throwing big rubber the 8'-6" XXH and the 9'-3" XH will do the job. I also liked them for the heavy gliders, heavy cranks, and big spinner baits. However, the 9'-3" H was my favorite.

Figure-8 possibilities are great. Caught several fish in Tennessee on an eight, and can't wait to see what happns on the LOTWs fish.

Fit and finish was very good on the rods I have, as was their ability to with stand abuse (I'm hard on rods, and nothing broke). The telescoping feature is great, I have the 9'-3"ers in my rod locker with lots of room to spare.

Might also say that the rods are heavier than some, because of the strength needed to throw the big stuff, and they will take a little getting used to. The handles are long if you like that (some don't). Fore grips are aound 4" and if you us them they look nice. Look like great rods for the $.

The're not for small crankbait or bucktails, but for DCG's on up far as I can tell. By and large I like them and expect to catch a good number of fish wih them.

Just received a call that Smokey's Muskie Shop will be placing their order very soon for all three new versions. Give John a call to reserve yours soon as he is already getting calls to hold rods.

You can call John at (262) 691-9659.

FWIW, you'll have to call Smokey's quite frequently. I called once a week for a month to see if they had an 8'6"XH in. They took down my number and said they would call me when they got them in.... Never got a call.

I did end up getting one thanks to D & S Bait&tackle in Madison and I really like the rod.

That was not a problem with Smokeys in not being able to get the 8'6"XH... the problem was from you guys buying too many and us not reacting fast enough. I have been backordered immediately after receiving them for almost 6 months.... If we received 100 pieces in, all 100 pieces went out the next day.

Thanks for the support guys!

Smokey's will be getting theirs as soon as we can get them shipped out. Good customer with great service.

It was'nt that smokey's did'nt get them in, they did, they just never called me when they got them in, just like they said they would. Nevertheless, I got one and am happy. I just wanted to mention it for others for future reference.

The New EVX rods are in our warehouse and will ship out early next week.

Tadpole's and Guides Choice up in Eagle River have also ordered the rods.

Thanks to all for the calls, emails and IM's I received asking about the rods. They should be in the stores in the next 8-10 days.

16 inches from the very back of the reel seat to the end of the cork. From the trigger it is probably 16&3/4??? 17???
