| I want some opinions as to whether my theory is correct. I have fished Delevan a several times this year and it started ok and I was hopeful for a good season. In the last week the weeds have all been destroyed/removed and the place is baron! The pike will follow the lures but will not commit, I think it’s because they have too much time to study the lures, rather than shooting out from the weeds and just hitting the lures. On average I have at least 12-14 fish follow in a morning and now it’s getting very frustrating, I have tried every lure I have from small to large, you name it I have tried it. This used to be a really good lake for pike and a chance at a musky, but now I am not so sure if it will recover. Has anyone one else experienced something like this? |

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I would agree on trying to get a reaction strike. If you're still seeing fish your location isn't the issue. Speed could be what it takes.

| Try using the old standby, walleye reef hawgs and give them a long pause. They used to be pike magnets on that lake. |

Location: N.FIB | My go to pike bait is an erie dery with a black or pumkin seen leach tail,it even works for muskie,got my very first muskie on that bait. |

| Try trailing a sucker or blue gill. Live bait usually works pretty well on pressured lakes |

Location: Presque Isle Wisconsin | Your exactly right;When fish are in the weeds ,and there to ambush prey a fast moving lure is usually a good idea. The fish has far less time time to make a decision as to whether to commit or not. They hear the lure coming but dont have a good site line so the decision must be fast.Conversley, when there are no site obstructions they will take longer to decide and may only follow.
possible solutions are: night fishing
match the forage base as much as possible with your bait
Throw inside out ( from shallow to deeper with your cast bringing the bait to the fish . ( works for me)
use a bait the works well at imitating an injured or dying fish instead of a straight retreived bait |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Here is 2 two great baits for Pike that do not commit, #1 JENSON BUNNY HAIR JIG, #2 { DON'T LAUGH } BANGO MINNOW, when pike will not pickup a moving bait , try dead sticking a bait on the bottom, I will use this in Canada in shallow bays, if I see one on the bottom, cast to the pike he will swim over and will look at the bait just sitting on the bottom and give it a twich and wait, sometimes for 2-3 mins and then he will suck it up with one big gulp and set the hook fast so he don't spit it out.
