| Is there anywhere I can get this picture measuring software on the internet? Nearly all fish I catch, I take a single picture, and let her go, I usualy don't bother measuring. But i have heard that you may be able to measure a fish, let me know. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I think it would be easier and more accurate to measure the fish before you let it go... A floating stick/ruler or bump board can make it quick and easy for you and the fish.

| Didn't the WRMA use some sort of photogramatic (sp?) software to figure an estimated length on the Spray fish? Lots of variables, math and cost involved I believe.

| Bounty Fishing has the technology to measure the fish from a pic.
I would suggest contacting them, or, joining Bounty Fishing and simple sending your pics to them.

| I have seen a software like that in my remodeling magizines. They advertise it for estimating siding and roofing. It required a special gauge that had to be in the picture then the software could diminsion anything in the picture by calibrating itself from the gauge. Sounds like a lot of work, get a bump board or stick.
What you need is the system my countertop fabricators have. They come and digitize my cabinets with a special machine and then download it to the CAD system. You could measure your fish then email it straight to MuskieFirst for the report. I may be getting carried away.LOL

Sometimes used by biologists to measure morphometrics in fish. Two important things need to be kept constant at all times to get accurate measurements: 1) distance of lens to fish and 2) a marking near fish of known length (the marking, not the fish...). The camera's distance to the fish is most important though.

| I hate to be Captain Obvious here, but it sure seems easier to just measure the fish. I do it with a floating ruler while the fish is in the net, after the hooks are removed. The photo method will never be as accurate as a ruler.

| I hate to suggest yawl are a bunch of dolts, but anybody that wants a fish measured, just post it on the board, claim it is 58", and immediately you will get an over/under that will average out to 98% accuracy! |
