Location: Oswego, IL | To those who may have the 40 or levelwind 40, how much line are you spooling in it, I thought I read one of you spool until its .25" full (so you can still see the spool sides a quarter inch) |

| If you have the non-levelwind, leave at least 1/4 inch of the spool showing to allow for your line to pile. That is what I was told when I got mine and it worked fine. I now have the levelwind and I filled it up so I could get the fastest speed out of it.

Location: Oswego, IL | Muskie4life, be careful the reason why I asked is because on a levelwind if you do fill it all the way up you actually have the line forced down thru the levelwind and then out, I left a quarter because that was the point where the line still went straight out of the levelwind. I think if its to full and the line is forced down to go out of it, it will fray line, shorten cast, and be more able to backlash. just a thought. Check it out and let me know how that line looks from the spool to the levelwind. |

You are right, I just went and looked at my reel and the line is angling down to go out the levelwind and the line is rubbing the top. I think I will do as you mentioned and take some line off until the line comes straight out. It will be interesting to see if this cuts down on the number of backlashes. I have more trouble with that on this reel than any other but it's worth it when you start reeling in.

Location: Moline,IL | I went out today with a fully spooled 40 and had constant back lashes. Will cut some line off today to see if this helps. |

| Try using Cortland Masterbraid in 80 lb. if you continue to have backlash problems. I started with 80 pound power pro and it was a nightmare. Constant backlashes and several breakoffs with double 10's |
