Looking at a couple boats, either 17' lund with 115 yamaha or 18' lund with 150 yamaha. Fishing mainly Oneida and Vilas countys with several trips to Ashland and lake superior in the bay. For the cost is the 18' much better or 17' ok? mainly 2 people fishing but ocasional 3 or with family/kids. Thanks.

Get the biggest boat and motor you can afford.

If you can afford a 20 footer, get that.

With three fishing or family and kids running around in the boat you will appreciate the 18 a lot more. Especially if it is a little wider than the 17.

I agree with all the above.. I bought a 17.5' (92" beam) Tracker Targa thinking it would be big enough but when I have my 3 young kids and wife it fills up in a hurry. Seats take up so much space. Not to mention once you and everyone else fishing brings their big ol' muskie boxes, rods, net, etc.... I wish I had a 19-20' with a nice wide 98" beam.

Yep, no question about it. The choice is easy, especially since you mention fishing big water from time to time.

I'll play the devil's advocate a little. How are the landings you usually use? If you're sure the 18' boat can easily get in and out of the landings you use, and you have the storage space, vehicle to pull it, etc. then I would go for the 18 footer too. If you're fishing Lake Superior at all I would think the extra size would be nice. If fishing 3 people fairly often the 18' would probably be nice too.
