I was wondering if anyone has experienced what I am? I have a HDS10 with the internal GPS.

First, it takes about 1-2 minutes for the GPS to acquire position - Then after a few minutes of movement (for argument sake trolling) the trail starts to break as the scrolling gets choppy, and all of he sudden the arrow icon will tilt and start heading straight east. Regardless of which direction I'm heading.

It will correct if I restart the unit, but it won't be long before it's due east again.

Sounds like the same GPS my wife uses for getting to places!

Is this a new unit Jerry? I've never had that happen before but it seems like it's just loosing its reference points in the mapping software. I'm no expert what so ever so I'll let others give you advice on it. Just had to throw a wife joke out there!

never buy a 1st year of anything... ; ) there are allllways bugs they have to work out...
have you tried laying down icons yet Jerry? heard you have to go thru quite a bit rather than just hitting "enter, enter" like the old units...

Well, spent the last couple hours on the phone and fiddling with the settings. I finally got it to stop B-lining east at 771 mph. (which is what it read) - I did a hard reset, and it still didn't work. Finally, I checked the satellite link in the system menu, and noticed it was on Auto in the GPS select. So I switched it from Auto to iGPS since it's an internal model. It works finally, however, now the trail lags and has to play catch up with the icon. This happens at all speeds. Hopefully there is a fine tune for that.

I have a new HSD-5. Running a LakeMaster Chip for the LOTWs.

Seems to work about 75% of the time. Unit locks on in good fashion (I have a Standard Horizon GPS running a C-Map chip and lock-up time is similar). However, I get this. Every once in a while the mapping system will just "black-out". Be going along, and either at low speed or at high speed the unit will suddenly just blackout, and only show you a black grid system, with your overlay numbers. Then about as suddenly it will come back to life and work for a couple of hours, and you think your troubles are over. Then it does it again. Very frustrating. It seems that if you zoom out it'll be O.K. for a while, but then it'll start again. Seems to be worse with a split screen. Not sure what's causing this?

Haven't called Lowrance yet (my calling experiences hasn't been good), but will soon if this continues and I can't make it work by myself, with on-line help. Sent an e-mail, with no response so far.

When it 's working the mapping system with the LakeMaster LOTWs chip is very good. GPS accuracy is much better that what I've seen with older units and chips. Detail accuracy is good. wish they had the whole lake mapped.

Bet they'll get this to work eventually. Like someone said, the first year with something new is usually an experience. Sort of frustrating at times.

Jerry can't those unit be used with an external antenna and then you can share waypoints and such with the nmea2000 network. that would be my recomendation why spend 2000 bucks on a unit and not 200 on a real antenna. let me know how that unit works out for you I would like to upgrade but want some feed back on them first. Good luck

Aside from the trail lag, they are working now. We'll see how long it lasts.

Are these firmware upgradeable? You might check www.lowrance.com for updated software.
