Lee's Chopper. The fish went towards the motor and I tried to horse it a bit and the lure popped out before I could freespool it. Mid 40's I think, it would have made for an awesome opener!

The action was early for us for sure. Started fishing at 8 and in the first hour was a 40 incher follow on a top water to the boat...swim under the boat and followed someone else's lure for about a minute...sometimes stopping and just watching it go around in a circle...never seen a ski do that before. Then about 20 minutes later we boated a low 30 incher. And that was it. Casted for 4 more hours and never saw another fish. My elbows are gonna be BURNING tomorrow.

Oh and when i went to loosen the drag on my new Revo Toro to put it away....the drag just started slipping...i haven't messed with it yet but it's not looking good. FIRST TIME I'VE USED IT!!!!!

Got 2--35 & 38 inches. Saw a real nice 1 laying up on the sand outside some reeds where the panfish were spawning--45-48 inches--not interested in anything I got near him--actually hit him in the head with a spinnerbait but just slowly turned away. Now that's what I was looking for--Oh well--maybe next time!!

The fish was likely a spawned out female that was in recovery mode. In a week or so, look for that same fish to be in the closest typical early season spots right off of the area where you saw her.

Saturday:

Got on the water about 10:00...lost a new (to me) lure, had my tm batteries go dead on me out there (time to replace...I pushed it too long before doing so, so it is my own fault by not making sure things are up to snuff beforehand)...of all things, got cut off on a body of water that was downright huge and nobody else out fishing the area I was in... Frustrating to say the least, but oh well..sometimes that is what happens. Sunday got out about 10:00 again, managed to have a quick hit, and a few follows on a different body of water, so no slime in the boat this opener.

New year, and tomorrow is another day...

I fished the whole day on lake namekagon for the opener and caught one small pike and had 4 or 5 low 30 fish follow in the morning. Went out today for 4 hours and didn't see a thing. Did get to try the new slingblade and it was awesome...

Similar scenarios for my party for three solid days on the water in Oneida Co.

One shortie caught and two good fish lost. We rolled two and saw over a dozen skiddish follows. Two giants looming in the weed beds, again, not interested in anything. Water temps upwards of 60-64 degrees. Other than that, my wife caught a 21" walleye and partner caught a 35" pike. . . Slow going, but soon to get better. . . VERY SOON!

Add this one to my report. Went out trolling for walleyes yesterday evening and nothing going so we hit the shorelines and popped this 39"er. Very beat up from spawning.

Saturday a.m. water temps at 58 w/ S wind and 62 in p.m. w/ N wind. One LG fish contacted in south weeds in 6-8 FOW w/ a glider at sunrise. Multiple fish contacted on west break-line in 12-15 FOW w/ a DDD ripped and paused. Feeding window that I noticed was 10:15 and 11:00 as the wind shifted from the south to from the north. I had two fished hooked, one lost and one released, also a handful of more follows. Only saw two more males after the wind shifted until sunset.
Monday a.m. water temps at 60 and 64 at noon w/ strong E wind. Contacted three small males with DDD's or 6" Big Games. The cabbage and coontail weeds seem ahead of last year on this particular lake and the water temps are warmer than last year at this time. One thing I didn't give enough time was open water with Pounders. As I fished the deeper weed edge I would see LG schools of suspended gills over my shoulder...dough!

Fun family weekend in Northern Wisconsin. Gills were coming into the shallows with the nice warm sun... so invested most my boat time as designated "fish unhooker" for my boys.

Fished opening morning with MRoberts from daybreak till noon chasing ski. Had 2 or 3 lazy lookers and saw a few others just cruising or porpoising.

Spent 2 hours on a very clear water lake Sunday between 10am and noon. Had some very deep follows (basically on the bottom in 15 feet of water). So... put on a sinking jointed Baby Depthraider and worked the lure close to the bottom along some deeper breaklines for the last hour. As a result, my 7 year old son did a fine job netting a 3 footer for Dad.

Monday morning my older son finally took interest in some fishing. We launched at sunrise and fished about 15 minutes before he was FROZEN (hey, it was 39F.... so I don't blame him). Rather than going home early, we drove with the heater cranked to a new lake I wanted to explore. First cast stuck a 30 incher on a LongTale. By 8:30 am my son was frozen again... so we headed back to the cabin for the day.

Teddy B and I fished Polk County yesterday. The fish were moving early and often and the water was gin clear @ 59 degrees. We moved 10-12 muskies, but not many were that interested (not eating), so I downsized mid-day and stuck a 45 incher.

Fished a Hayward area lake and it was slow, 63 degree water temps, and lots and lots of fish were surfacing all around the boat and right next to the boat and I've never even managed to get one of those to follow let alone bite (except when there surfacing because there chasing stuff). Fish were fairly banged up looking. Raised a few low 40" class fish and caught a little one along with some pike. Fun to be out but not much for fish.

Overall slow. Opening morning boated a smaller 30’s fish after throwing back on a 45”ish fish that had gone around on the “8” a ton of times. Raised several other fish and had one other fish hit a DDD but no hooks found home. DDD’s off the break as Andy mentioned was the most productive. Fished till noon. After that I did what JLong did and spent quality time with the family. My 4 yr old daughter kept me very busy unhooking a lot of crappies Sat. evening. Sun. evening I got achance to fish skies again. Two short strikes shallow on Mepps Giant Killers, had a 45-46” fish chase a Fish Stick HD twice, and had a fish crack a 10” Jake out suspended over 30’ of water. No hooks found home on that fish either. Yesterday I didn’t fish due to a family emergency that turned out ok thank god!

Fished near Hayward this weekend: Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I had a small follow and caught a 41. The fish I caught came on a DDD in about 8 feet of water. Pull-pause with the DDD just bumping bottom.

Two of us fished the lake the next day with only one small nothern to show for it. No follows. Saw a few fish surfacing and one musky caught by another boat, and that was it. Tougher weekend than I would have thought it would be.

A friend and I put in 15 hours of Musky fishing this weekend and we never hooked a fish. We had over 15 follows but could not get one to hit. All fish we had follow were between 30 and 40 inches.
