I have had some problems with my electric foot pedal on my trolling motor. Sometimes it will only steer one way and sometimes it dosen't work at all. Most of the time it works it just sucks when it doesn't. Its my second foot pedal that I have bought for my trolling motor. Is there a fix for this problem or do I need to invest in another foot pedal. Maybe I should just get a cable driven one? Whats better? Any particular brand?

What model Minnkota is it? I was having problems similar to that with my Terrova 101. Except it was just dead. I took it in for repair and they had to replace the motherboard - Then it happened again, and it was an internal wire that had snapped.
Unfortunately no one really make a perfect one. I have had motor guide and minnkota, even with the issues, I stick with Minnkota.

I have an older minnkota with electric foot pedal. When it does this I tear it apart with a screw driver and a pliers. Wipe everything down to get the sand out of it and put it back together. It gets sand in it off my shoes.

I should send you the six PD pedals I have that don't work anymore...

Not to be a smart a$$ but the fix is to buy a wireless co-pilkot and be done with the foot pedals forever. You won't regret it!

I can't imagine trying to control the boat with the buttons and trying to fish at the same time. I'm not a constant on type of person so I need to be able to move/control the boat with two hands on my rod/reel and not looking for a button.

The only time my foot pedal is exposed to the elements is when I'm fishing. Otherwise it comes inside with me, and I still have to replace em every 150 hours or so.
