What is your best "Walk the Dog" topwater lure? And if that company makes different sizes which size also. There are just so many.
My best is definetly the Giant Jackpot.

I've only used a couple, but it would seem hard to beat a Weagle. I have used the 8" a lot and have caught lots of fish (and some nice ones too) on it. I have a 10" that hasn't caught anything yet, but I haven't thrown that one much.

There's probably lots of good ones, but I'm going to vote for the Weage.

I luke the mi seducer and just got a little phat boy I'll have to let you know about that.

What makes the weagle so good? I see a lot of great stories about this lure but have never tries one. Why is it so much better than the others?

Definitely the weagle. I throw the 8" regular and WA a TON. I have put some fish in the boat on the 10"er as well, but I definitely need to give it more water time. It's tough to put ole perchy down though.

The weagle is so good since it for me doesn't glide so far (not as many misses), it rides low in the water allowing it to throw a lot more water than most WTD baits, also it is heavier than most other WTD baits allowing it to not get hit out of the water as easily as some other baits. By far my favorite WTD bait and will be tryin out the 10in this summer can't wait.

It seems as though the Weagle is the WTD topwater against which all others are judged. There's probably a reason for that...

I'm not sure that you can beat the Weagle. This is definitely my WTD top water of choice!

Anyone try the "Water Moccosin" from Musky Safari? I picked up a 9" at the Musky Expo. Tried a couple casts seems like a great lure. Easy to work WTD, big bait, moves a lot of water.

Not all WTD baits are created equal and in my mind, there are 2 categories, the "head bobber"(typical screweye attatchment is under the nose) and the "sloshers"( typical screweye attatchment is straight out of the nose, either vertical or horizontal) Some head bobbers are actually tail weighted to accentuate the "bob". Since many of these baits are made of wood, they can each have their own "personality" as well. Best? This can be situational too.IMO, some are better used as a "search bait" covering water and working quicker and others have produced better with a slower and more methodical pace. They're all TOOLS and have a place in the muskie anglers arsenal. Me likes Willy's and Weagles(sloshers), Phat Boys and Fish Sticks(head bobbers). The common denominator with the 4 baits mentioned are that they're built like tanks. 3 use Eagle Claw 774's(or did) and all 4 use .092 screweyes. I've pulled hooks out or opened screweyes from lesser baits by hand. No gouda!

Good points Steve. Maybe the muskies by me have a taste for something a bit smaller, but i certainly catch more fish on the giant jackpot than on the weagle. Both really fun baits, but where they seem to skyrocket out of the water on a jackpot they'll often follow right behind the weagle. Giant jackpot for me.

I like the MMT's Slip Slider and Weagles. I grew up throwing jackpots though, so I can't count them out.

I've used a Weagle, Jackpot and Mass Maurader and have had the best luck with the Jackpot by far.

Besides the weagle, I like Hoosire hand made's 9" shad topwater and his new plastic walk the dog topwater. H20 tackle's Recon is another awesome bait(which you can weight or not to your preference) as well.

Water Moccasin by Musky Safari. Built like a tank and works great in the same category as the Weagle only better IMO. And cheaper

ok guys i know some of you have not tried or even seen some of don slagles hoosier handmade topwaters yet.. i am a big weagle guy but since don has come out with his new topwaters they are awsome.. he has 2 different ones.. one is a shad rattling topwater Pushes water like a weagle and has 3 hooks works better sometimes than a weagle and now he has come up a new one that is totally well made and indistructable they do resemble the weagle but he has 3 sizes and they will last.. check them out at his website..... www.hoosierhandmademuskybaits.com

My vote is for the weagle because you can absolutely rip that bait through the water and once you get the timing down, can really throw some water. I caught my two largest fish last year on the 8" weagle, these were fish that we had moved on many other baits and they wouldnt take it, threw on the weagle and just thrashed the water to the point where they had no choice but to eat. You just cant make that kinda of commotion with a normal walk the dog and keeping it in the water at the same time. It only got "blown" out of the water once last year by a fish but I mean really, when they forget to open their mouths, there is only so much one can do. Last year was the first year Ive used them, and I wont be in a boat without at least 2.

Get one (or two) and you'll understand.

Weagle. One Eyed Willy looks good, will be a go to under certain conditions. I've caught so many fish on Weagles over the last few years...

RECON, from Roger at H2O Tackle
The large size really moves the water.
Has screw in weight system, can tail weight and make it
a head bobber or front end weight and make it a woosher.
I like to add a little both ends and really work it fast
moves alot of water.

Salmo Maas Marauder for me... so far. I can only compare it to the Jackpot which I've used them both alot, and I feel the marauder is a little eisier to work and can be fished faster in rough water. Although I am going to try a weagle, probably the 9" and who knows maybe I'll have a knew favorite. Also going to try Musky Busters Mag Topwalker, still dont have a favorite prop bait ( and I have a few) but thats OK because tryimg new baits is like christmas morning for me.
