| Hey guys.....my daughter decided to stay in Madison for the summer.....she wants me to bring the boat up to do some fishing......I've never been on any of the lakes up there......what's the best lake to fish and which launch would you recommend?......any other tips greatly appreciated......thanks, Bob |

Location: beloit | I would go to waubesa, good numbers lake with some big ones in there also. the fish in there really like Lee Lures choppers, have someone throw that and the other throw bucktails. |

Location: c.wis | def. waubesa or monona: if your not doing good on one its a short ride up the yahara to the other. I just moved from mad, unfortunatly. but I like to fish the rr tressle, upper mudd lake,the river between the two, troll the triangle, monona bay, turvile point, the bay by john nolin prky. (under the bridges by the terrace by the crewing club storage) the hotwater discharge just dowm from the terrace-you'll see the big concrete thing with the pipe coming out of it. and the huge weed bed just out from olin park landing, the fatest fish ive caught came out of the creek that runs to wingra. choppers work well, black/orange dawgs,I like purple/nickle- black/nickle for dcgs,mag x raps those are my goto lures for the chain. good luck, go during the week there is alot less boat traffic. if you cant raise any skies throw spinnerbaits and worms in the river under all the lifts and piers, I guarentee you'll catch alot of bass- before I moved I worked on one of the barges in mad. that puts in all the docks/piers/lifts and did salvage work and I can say Ive seen a dozen 45+" fish in the river alone. the river is my fav spot. my pb came from the bridge nearest to the bar on a 1/2 oz white spinnerbait, no leader on 20 lb. pp for bass. good luck |

| Thanks for the info guys......greatly appreciated......what launch do you like to use best on Waubesa?.......or would you launch on Monona?........I looked at the Monona launch off Olin......seemed like they had a lot of room for trailers there......thanks again, Bob |

Location: c.wis | I like the launch off broadway, right on the river. hardly any trailers. the launch at babcock is nice. always busy though. olin is nice to but when its windy it can be a pain. depending on what day of the week your going out on, weekends off broadway, weekdays olin-good luck |

| Just my two cents... If you are fishing on Monona launch on Monona- Olin or Olbrich should work fine. If you are fishing on Waubesa lauch on Waubesa- Babcock, Lake Farm or Goodland are all good. Don't waste your time running through the channel between the lakes- you could be fishing instead.

Location: Contrarian Island | the "best lake" changes in Madison imo throughout the season...Wingra with the cooler springs we have been having has been your "best" lake in May for action, Monona and Waubesa are strange..one night the fish can be going nuts on Waubesa and guys on Monona won't see a fish and the opposite can happen...Wingra is definitely easier to fish and has more fish per acre than the others but it can get to be a weedy mess in mid summer...I stick to fishing that in May, early June and then again at times in Sept thru Nov, if you want to put her on a fish or 2 your best odds are on Wingra.....take your pick and go fishing! good luck.

Location: c.wis | no, I fish by my self and most times and that day. if I get a lazy fish I might get a release pic while I hold its tail. but this one didnt want to sit still Im suprised too cause it took a while to get it in. I chased it down to the canal that runs to the left as you go to uppermud then I got it close enough to grab. on top of that I didnt have a net since I was bass fishing that day, and had to hand land the fish to get the hook out. some guy at the marina took a camera pic and tried to pic mesg. me but the pic was really grainy and when I went to blow it up the fish looked like a log with some fins. lucky I had a trailer on the strike king.funny I only have two pics of me holding fish one was 27"tiger and the other is 33". matter of fact I had to fish my casting rod out of the drink after the fish decided to take off and scared me half to death. it was in the middle of july so I hope the fight didnt killer her, I feel bad cause I had to messure and what not and she was out of the water for a while. Ive talked to a few that have 50's. my longest and my heaviest came from monona. I put in two whole seasons before I could catch a muskie in madison, something like 20 days a year. then my last year in madison I boated 10. most under 36" four over 40" 42,44,46,51 the 44" came out of lake wis. by the fingers. now I live in southern mn, no lakes within an hour that have skies, well two but like an hour and twenty. so im stuck with eyes. the one fish I dont like fishing for. anyways lons story short, wish I had a pic |

| Not saying I don't believe you Eric, but all the 50's that I hear that come from the Madison chain don't have pictures... Yes, 49's and 49.5's have been caught and verified, but as far as I know a "true" 50 is another story. I believe they are in there though. If someone has a pic of a "true" 50 caught from the Madison chain, please post.

| agreed, no pic, sorry, it's just another fish tale imo.
If you have a pic please post it as to date there has not been a verified 50 with a pic caught.
A guy got one last year right at the 50 mark who is very reliable but he didn't have his camera with him.
It would be great if someone got one and actually had a pic ... I know if I ever do I will for sure be showing everyone the pic!

Location: Madison | If you do hit Wingra, it's a little different from the other launches in that there is only room for one rig at a time at the launch. Couple things your fellow anglers may appreciate:
- You can't turn your rig around by the water. There is a turnaround 50 yards from the water, use that and back the trailer down.
- Don't load your boat in the turnaround. That just blocks other people who may be ready to put in/pull out. I usually load in the parking lot before the turnaround.
- After you dump the boat in the water, walk it around to the other side of the dock. This again allows others to use the landing while you are parking. |

| A 50" out of the Yahara Chain wouldn't surprise me. Way too many being caught in the 48-49 range last few years for there not to be at least a couple breaking the 50" mark. I believe it will happen this year.
You guys say it's not 50 unless there's a picture of it, but even if someone did catch a 50 there and got a picture of it, how many of you would look at the picture and say it wasn't 50"? |

Location: Contrarian Island | c'mon, that's maybe a bit of a stretch EA...I think there are def pics of fish that most would agree are what people say they are..there are those that are reliable and unfortunately those that may stretch the truth a bit...put a 50 on a bumpboard take a pic and 99.9% will believe you...
I think there 'probably' have been some 50's caught in Madison but to date, none have surfaced that come with a pic and a guy to tell the tale...one of these days someone will get one, and actually have a camera on board that is working, but until then..i still say we are looking for the first...with a pic.
maybe tonite... ; )

| wow, not to add fuel to the fire but ive seen a 50, caught first hand. again we were bass fishing but we were near the rr tressle on waubesa . unfortunatley no camera but in addition to that ive seen a 50 wash up on shore this spring. and it is a fifty cause it was a fresh kill, it was still a bloody from spawing im guesing, I was putting in some landscape lighting and I saw it floating near shore. I had a tape and it was 50 1/2". well anyways enjoy and let the debate continue! gotta love it |

I don't think anybody doubts there is a 50 in the Madison chain. Too many upper 40 inch fish have been showing up as of late, so there likely is a 50 or a few 50s in the chain.
Oh and did you happen to get a photo of either of the 50s you saw? Didn't think so...

| How about the one that was 52 caught from the dock two years ago by a guy who lived on Waubesa. The truth only came out from the taxidermist- the fish REALLY measured 49 and was caught by the guys son.
How about the claimed 60 that was caught a few years ago by the guy who didn't measure it... He had a picture and showed it to everyone. It was not 60. My guess was 45.
I think the only people not catching 50s on the Madison Chain are the people who actually measure their fish!

Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | i know that 50s are in the mad chain, but if i ever get one the only place anyone will see a pic of it is on my trophy pic wall at my house. and if you have any doubt about 50s in the chain take your @$$ to the dam and see them yourself. if you dont then you DO NOT know what you are talking about. |
