| Great May spring morning today, foggy, some rain....... then a huge adrenaline rush !
Nailed a fat 44 incher on a spinner bait in about 4 FOW. It hit about 20' from the boat as I was pumping a Bass sized spinner bait through some mifoil holes. Close, in tight battle. Got it to the net quickly even though on light tackle (Suffix 20lb with 25lb leader). After a short but intense battle I had a very "green" fish boat side.
Note to self: a Frabil 5410 doesn't quite cut it for this class of fish. Even with an oversized net, the hoop is too small and made it difficult to handle the fish alone. Also, the locking screws were both missing and I nearly had the hoop come off the handle.
I spent a lot of time on the release for this one and it paid off as she finally swam off on her own. I could feel the tail coming back to life at each attempt to let her go and finally, after getting the response I was looking for she was gone.
I managed a quick release photo. A kayaker also snapped a few shots and if all goes well, I may have a few more pics to post later.
